I'm not disputing this is a complete joke and to be honest I have no answers how to solve the problem..

What would you do in this instance and moving forward?
That's a good question. Although I don't think I have any more idea than you.

I DO think there is a loss of personal and social responsibility in this country. I think any effective solution has to tackle the root of the problem and needs to target the people who fly drones irresponsibly. As has been pointed out, the vast majority of drone flyers and drone flights cause little problem, and yet it's the responsible many who end up being inconvenienced by the actions of the few.

Some system of capture (or just identification) of offending drones with a foolproof means of linking the drone to the operator has to be the way forward. However this needs to happen any and every time a drone is flown in such a way as to cause a problem; anyone considering using a drone delinquently needs to have the 100% assurance that they will be caught and punished. Work towards this and we will see problems with drone misuse drop dramatically.

Slightly off topic but how come people involved in other crimes aren't named and shamed before being proven either way?
Cliff Richard might beg to differ.

People who are arrested for alleged crimes are often named in the press, wtf are you talking about.

Its more the papers who snoop around locally, pestering the neighbours. With a bunch of cops turning up, no doubt many knowing he flew R/C stuff(why make a secret of it) its not hard to put 2 & 2 together

Just thinking about this - do you have to present in the same area to run a drone?

Obviously the military can sit in a shed in the UK and strike Taliban type chaps several thousands of miles away...satellite link?

Anything to stop me leaving a drone set up near Gatwick and then popping home (to Indonesia) and running it from there?

I have a security camera thing in our lounge that I can access from anywhere in the world over wifi or mobile phone - can move the camera around talk through it etc anywhere I can get phone signal.

Fundamentally could I sit at home here with my feet up a good few thousands of miles away and play havoc with Gatwick until someone shoots me (well, my drone) down?
It appears what you describe is possible.

Christopher Jefferies.

Basically, Mr Plod accused him of murder because "he looked a bit weird".

TV drama made about it (which was very good): https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/nov/29/ch...

I don’t for sure, but that’s simply my gut feeling.

I said the same about Gatwick and by chance there is no evidence whatsoever after quite a few million pounds thrown at the investigation.

Makes you wonder if there was actually any drone here last year

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdfVIdsufI8

Or just some Gatwick employee who is driving around with orange flashing lights who sees drones everywhere.

Was there a drone? Not sure, but considering this is twice Gatwick has had the issue with no villain brought to book it does make you wonder if the problem is actually inhouse and not a real problem at all.

First step would be what was the chain of reporting in 2017 and again in 2018 and are their any similarities? We don't want this to be all caused by a bloke called Bob who lives with his big eared uncle down in Edenbridge do we.....

As someone living directly under the flight path I can say it's definitely not shut at the moment ... just one of the runways is ... plenty of planes still coming in on the other main runway smile

Had literally just pushed back from Aberdeen to Heathrow when the captain announced this. Gone back to the stand and have a 15 minute wait before they announce what the plan is. Doesn't look like I'm going to make it.

5 out of 5 flights delayed in the last month!

It’s probably the wrong kind of drone.
