Scottish Referendum / Independence - Vol 7
Discussion

It's clear to see the SNP have acquired a lot of support from former Labour supporters, but what's this sudden lurch to the left you're talking about?
I haven't seen that. One minute they're criticised in this thread for introducing measures to support middle class people eg the electric car grant, and the next they're being compared to the North Korean government!
A few of the SNP policies have been discussed here. They are first posted as left wing 'progressive' policies but on closer scrutiny and objective analysis turn out to be nothing of the sort! Is this because the SNP are hard of thinking and completely screw up their intended letftiness or are they doing it deliberately because they are, in fact, 'tartan tories' just greedy for power and are playing their electorate for being hard of thinking?I haven't seen that. One minute they're criticised in this thread for introducing measures to support middle class people eg the electric car grant, and the next they're being compared to the North Korean government!

More devolved powers is also what most Scots want.
I don't. NoNeed said:

I don't. So 13:1 with one abstainer.
The settled will of the people in flesh and blood.

I have three Scottish friends, two of which think the whole Scottish parliament was and still is a waste of time and money.
My voting record stands asNO to a Scottish Parliament
NO to tax raising powers
NO to 'independence'
The only time I'd use a YES vote would be to disband the miserable wee talking shop.
I'm not a Labour voter but I didn't hate Blair, or Brown or even Corbyn. Disagreed, yes but they didn't personally offend me. I despise Salmond and especially the pernicious wee boot Sturgeon for what they are doing. They will lie, obfuscate and cheat us into another referendum as soon as they think they will win. She's clearly playing it down ahead of the SP elections after which she can ramp it all up again, in spite of the once in a generation bullst.
I fear the only way we can avoid it is to get rid of her. There are no other candidates with the same draw. Unless they went for Black and even the SNP aren't that stupid.
There must be some dirt on Sturgeon out there somewhere.

Anyone noticed that the Sturg has gone public at the conference stating that the SNP will not be looking to push another referendum for "freedom" as it's too soon.
Well there is that plus the slightly vexing issue of oil prices being in the tank lmao!
Good spot. Sadly, it says a lot about how the debate and conversation in this thread has changed, that this very pertinent point hasn't been discussed. Well there is that plus the slightly vexing issue of oil prices being in the tank lmao!
No views, anyone? I realise this won't let you carry on SNP-bashing but surely it's relevant to the theme of his thread?
One aspect to ponder is the SNPs blatent unreliability on any declarations on when/how often to run neverendumbs. Only one year ago it was patently once in a lifetime. Now it depends on the electorate.
The problem is though that what once was "ha ha ha, get it right up they English with your twisting and turning" perception from their support is now turning into "we're no sure even we can trust what you are saying" for some of those single-issue signatories to SNP membership.
'Frack off' I think was the phrase...

What I'm concerned about is her usual vagueness when it comes to 'it's up to the people' (which is patently untrue anyway). She'll be watching the polls but what constitutes a change in opinion? One poll with Yes at 52%? Two years of polls with Yes at 55%?
She's playing fast and loose with everyone's future. We know she'll call another referendum when she thinks she can win but nobody else knows the parameters.
Selected lies from her conference speech
We won the General Election. [Don't remember you waving outside No. 10]
We will respect those whose opinion differs from ours. [By plotting another referendum asap]
We are not just the real opposition. We are now the only effective opposition to the Tories at Westminster. [You are 55 aholes out of 650 on the far fringes of the house]
And persuade a majority of Scots of what we already know to be true.
Independence is the best future for Scotland. [Know? Show me the money. Oh, you couldn't then and can't now]
Then there was her comparing the result of the coming tax credit cuts to an increase in income tax to 90% which was 'clever' use of figures. If only she could be so clever plugging the £7.5bn oil shortfall.
She's a rancid, despicable lying wee runt who must be stopped.

This one really got me. The Scots, by voting SNP, will only perpetuate a Conservative majority in the House of Commons. There is NO credible opposition now and SNP are just a fringe protest party stirring up division, hatred and resentment where it didn't exist before.

Their 'opposition' amounts to talking ste at PMQ's - displaying their 'repeat a lie as often as possible' at every opportunity in front of every media outlet possible to re-inforce their skewed narrative to their own following. It is a tactic with a limited shelf-life though - tiresome and wasteful - a bit like the SNP.

We were supposed to believe that Business for Scotland were a group of high-powered executives in high-turnover, large-scale production, high-employing industries, the pro-independence equivalent of the CBI.Turns out they are a bunch of bit-players in small enterprises, using the opportunity as a springboard for their own political ambitions as they abandon their business interests for positions at the Westminster trough.
More embarrassing facts that fly in the face of the SNP narrative.
On that subject, here are some more.

Gotta love them over on Wings though. Angus Robertson and Stewart Hosie have both been ripped a new one by Andrew Neil this week, the fake Reverend shows a different figure to what Neil claimed and it's all a conspiracy, Murdoch shill, boycott the BBC.
I don't know who was right but between probably the most respected political broadcaster of many years experience and who has managed some major media outlets and presumably made a lot of money, and some faceless internet guy who used to review computer games I know which I'd go with.
My favourite comment from a guy who was there:
I happened to be present at the recording at the AECC. Before and after the interview, Angus was clearly very annoyed about something (probably because the studio kept him and Shona Robison standing for about 5-10 minutes before Neil got to him, while David Torrance only had to stand a couple of minutes. “Unbiased” BBC, ladies & gents).
Utterly beyond satire. How have we let things come to this?
