All whilst overseen by a Dutch company... because 'thur nae English'. You couldn't make it up.
To be fair, it was a Scottish company before that (First Group) who then got replaced by Nederlandse Spoorwegen, so if anything the franchise became less Scottish. Stagecoach won’t touch it because they saw what the Competition Commission did to National Express and First when they both held it & don’t want their Megabus/Citylink/regional bus operations wrecked.roadtripboy said:

It's utter lunacy. There are train stations all over the Central Belt and down into Ayrshire where there was no native Garlic word for the place, so they simply hashed one together that sounded 'mair gallic'. A complete waste of time and money, but hey, culture innit. Wha's like us?
The neds in Ayrshire haven't the faintest idea where Cill Mheàrnaig or Caladh Àird Rosain is, but sets us apart from the bastirt English... [/SNP mindset]

I love what they’ve done to the train livery too. There’s now a saltire, the word ScotRail, and then, just in case you forget what country you’re in or what ScotRail might mean, “Scotland’s Railway” (alternated on each carriage with the same message in Gaelic). The neds in Ayrshire haven't the faintest idea where Cill Mheàrnaig or Caladh Àird Rosain is, but sets us apart from the bastirt English... small beer compared to badly handled projects, but they have approved the £15mil repairs to the aviemore funicular railway. they awarded the management contract to a new company a few years ago, they came in saying they had all these grands plans and massive investment ready to go....... turns out it was a massive mystery tour through all the different companies/ parent companies/ sister companies and they went bust having wasted all the money they had received in grants etc.......
to try and salvage this season the highlands and islands enterprise suddenly appeared with cash to buy a massive snow factory, which didn’t produce any snow this winter when it was needed.
people would maybe say- what’s the problem with that? well the government seem to only give this massive amount of money to cairngorm/aviemore, when all the other places are left to stand on their own two feet. other ski centres had to beg/ borrow and crowd fund for their snow factories but cairngorm get it handed to them. £15mil to keep a crap train set running, what happens if that need repairing in another 10years?!? why don’t the other centres get a share of this money? why are they repairing the broken railway when they could install many other types of lift for the same cost?!?

It raises a smile when JRM refers to the SNP as separatists.
It is an accurate term.hutchst said:

It's possibly the purest form of pejorative virtue signalling ever rolled out on a national scale.
I've always assumed that it's paid for out of EU grants, and will quietly fade away when they have to start shutting primary schools to pay for it.Devolved you say? Still the Tories!

When I see pictures like that.
I can only imagine the faces of people who rely on travel and tourism for business.
I’m sure they will be chuffed to bits with these bellends trying to kill off the industry.
Every time I see locals telling tourists to feck off, my own reaction is to say "there's no chance I am ever visiting that part of the world". It's a shame because this would have been the summer of the staycation. But I just can't face heading up north to be treated like that and viewed with utter contempt. The same locals will be the first to complain when their tax base is wrecked and local services disappear. People just can't seem to connect their own behaviour with adverse outcomes.
