Scotland leaving is an English issue, it'll have an effect, good or bad don't know, but it'll certainly be more upheaval in the short-term.

Judging someone for not pronouncing a word you think should be pronounced a certain way, is snobbish.

Rees-Mogg is ace, one of the few MPs who actively listens and responds.
Sorry, but I really don't think it's snobby to expect a politician to be capable of correctly pronouncing a word that my two year old daughter can.

Politicians are public figures who perform an important role in society, they should uphold certain standards and set an example for the country.

+1. Some of the Labour MPs are scraping the barrel with their 'street language' and 'whatever' demeanour. Then again they have Angela 'Screechy' Eagle to look up to who can't even put across an argument without sounding like she is going through a mental breakdown. JRM is cool as mustard.

Ignore Jawknee I have said before he is but a boy in a mans world. I am quite capable to do a mental count so that mine and Dianes orgasms coincide. Jawknee is still pondering over how to unhook her bra.

I thought the man from Wetherspoons seemed to have been sampling his own products.

I think that's part of why he has done so well over the years, an appearance that leads people to underestimate him. You wouldn't think he's worth £7.50 let alone £750 million. I spotted him in a Wetherspoons many years ago and offered to buy him a drink, he refused and bought me one instead biggrin This has obviously influenced my view of him ever since.

Edit to add a good short interview with him.

It is snobbish. Focus on what they say not how they say it.

I like JRM too, his appearance always reminds me of Walter The Softie from The Beano, but he's very far from that.

I hoped for more from Tim Martin. Like others I met him once in one of his pubs (The Imperial, Exeter - rather nice for a 'Spoons) and had a brief but entertaining chat with him. He seemed to be a bit out on a limb on the end there, seemed to have a duff mic too.

Angela Eagle, strewth, to think this woman was putting herself up as a credible leader of the Opposition not a few months ago, an absolute lightweight.

I thought he was well grounded and had a fair bit of common sense; he and Moggers, although outwardly seeming worlds apart, probably came out with the most sensible points.

He really is. Intelligent, articulate and actually passionate about being an MP and representing the views of his constituents.
One of my favourite QT moments was when he got one over after a Dimbleby jibe about Eton.

I'd forgotten about that. hehe
Hadn't seen that the first time round. Class response from a class act. Have a massive amount of time for JRM. Speaks massive sense and always backed up with facts IMO.

It sounds to me like she has some form of mild speech impediment, similar to Jamie OLiver, whatever it is, to attack her over that certainly doesn't reflect the good manners and well brought up attitude of the glorious Rees-Mogg whom many on here, including myself, admire.

Let's all be more like Rees-Mogg

I agree, he was OK, but erm. After saying that, he was still a few metres ahead of everyone save RM and Parris.

OT - I liked him after I heard he called his pub chain Wetherspoon after a teacher who told him he'd never amount to anything.
Anyway, he and JRM seemed the only ones who had any grounding in reality. SNP woman was a disaster. Everyone else was on a point scoring exercise.

Rees-Mogg is old-school in the best way. Learned from early age that to lose temper is to lose control and then to lose the argument. Impeccable manners and the ability to listen at the same time as talking. Has never knowingly offended anyone and, if he did want to, the recipient would probably not even realise it.

I did hear him slip once, I believe on QT, and immediately apologised for it. Can't recall what it was for...might have been mocking someone's look.

JRM probably the only person to respond to Ali G with such grace and dignity

I really don't think she has a speech impediment, if she does I will happily admit my mistake and retract my criticism.

First result for Dawn Butler on YouTube, she seems (to me at least) to pronounce 'asking' correctly around 2:20.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fp_GoKhRT0

At any rate, my point was intended to be about JRM and not any other politician in particular, I used Dawn Butler's recent appearance on QT as it stuck in my mind, that is all.

I also find it interesting that JawKnee apparently doesn't see the irony in replying to a post commending a politician for their politeness, in order to insult a total stranger.

Edit to add: Something relevant to note, my wife is an NHS speech therapist, I'm quite aware of speech and language and the various problems that people can face with it. If I honestly thought she had a speech impediment, I wouldn't have been criticising her.
