Iran 2 UK1 (Latest score)
1 all now.

The Iranians have given us one of our balls back.

Very kind of them to do so.
Have we got our subs warming up?

I would think shooting a fast maneuverable attack boat with a ten million pound torpedo is a bit of a waste and probably fairly tricky.

A spray down of lead from an A10 would be cheaper, but there would most definitely be some Youtube revenue opportunities. :-)

I wonder what bit of 'The UK has raised the threat to British shipping in Iranian waters in the Gulf to the highest level - where the risk of attack is "critical", that the ship owners had difficulty with?

I wonder how much a security team would cost compared to losing your tanker for some weeks/months....

God forbid that they look after their own assets...

A security team could help against a small gang of pirates ala Somalia but doubt they'd do much against the Iranian government forces other than escalate further.

Second ship now seems to be halfway up the gulf so guess that was sent on its way.

We have a Navy, albeit much reduced, shouldn't they now be escorting our tankers through the Strait of Hormuz?

If not what's the point of them?

Our ships don't work in the gulf, it's too hot for them, engines pack up!

Coincidentally, yesterday a court in Gibralter ruled that the Iranian tanker we have could be held for another month whilst they decide whether the seizure was actually legal or not.

Guess that gives a timescale for the release of the second tanker.

Where's our super-duper, all singing and dancing, £3.1bn aircraft carrier?

This is silly, the torpedo was already bought so might as well use it

One thing that surprised me was the Stena Impero is registered in London. If you do that, don’t you have to have effective safety standards/crew welfare etc. as opposed to places like Panama and LIberia? Any way, send in the SAS, it look a like the vessel concerned has a balcony, they love a balcony those guysshoot

Portsmouth. Has it got any planes yet?

Come to think of it... has it got a captain after they sacked the last one?

I suppose having a need to deploy the aircraft carrier against Iran might focus some minds as to whether sacking the captain for driving the company car was a good idea.
Of the various ships in Portsmouth, Victory will be as much use as Queen Elizabeth, at least we know it's engines won't pack up! In fact we could probably recommission the Mary Rose before fixing the leak in that carrier.

Given the limited number of working warships we have, perhaps it's time to consider instituting a convoy system to protect merchant shipping in the area

It would be easier and cheaper to stop "confiscating" Iranian vessels in the first place. What did our ahole "leaders" think would happen?

To quote Tryke3 ...this is getting silly we've paid for a navy we might as well use it..... trouble is it don't work very well..... it's either leaking, broken or without captains.

The Navy has more then one captain so it's not exactly a problem... especially for a ship not yet in service.

PS, it wasn't his company car, and he wasn't sacked.

It's a pathetic state of affairs for a once proud naval power isn't it.

6 UK registered ships per day pass through that Strait - surely we have enough frigates etc to run a small mission to accompany them each day as they approach Iran and until they are back out into the open seas?
