Ah, right ...OK.
Depends which reports you listen to.
Some say 8000 riot police in Paris (I'd assume they mean CRS and Gendarmes Mobile in addition to "normal" police.
Others are saying 89,000 police have been mobilised.
Mobilised to where ?
90k does seem a lot in one place at the same time.
Logistics would be a nightmare.
France does have twice our police numbers though.
It’s actually less than 90,000 deployed and it is definitely the whole country. Depends which reports you listen to.

One of the leaders of the demonstrators is holding a baguette. This is not the type of rioting I'm used to. Just now the Global News feed was showing groups of demonstrators walking away from the Arc. They were unmasked, apparently middle class, and only one had a beard.
If it is going to start, 'cause it hasn't yet, it might well be in the next hour or two.
Police moving in to catch those smashing windows.
There are police everywhere. All feeds show dozens over carriers, all seemingly awaiting disgorging their contents.
This is all rather atypical of French demonstrations. A bit confusing.
If the reports are correct, and the demonstrators are outnumbered 3:1, then that might be the reason.

Early reports stated nearly 90,000 all over France, with 31,000 demonstrators expected, most in the capital. That will include CRS; not really police officers as we know it, but a rather formidable tactical response unit that has little need to keep people sweet.
I can't help thinking that those policing the 'mob' will do something in order to ensure they are the ones who control the streets. Response is not a favoured option of theirs.

Are we sure that these riot police are even French?
All dressed in black. Masked. Impossible to identify.
Carried around in Armoured cars with EU markings.
All a bit worrying.
Cheers,
Tony

CRS;
Gendarmes Mobile;
Standard French Police kit in public order situations.
Not an uncommon sight in France.
The French like a bit of large scale disorder.

And one of them delivers a fatal blow.
How can the guilty riot cop be identified. I cannot see any easily recognisable numbers or identifiable codes on their helmets etc.
And if you cannot identify them, who do you know who they are?
As I said its a bit worrying to have 9,000 armed, unidentifiable riot police in Paris with carte blanche ( see what I did there) to crack a few skulls. Never mind all the others all over France.
Cheers,
Tony
At least the ones above have some sort of uniform, who is this guy?
Loads of them on youtube feeds, no uniform, no body armour, some have an orange band on the arm.

Well that's one guy that will be wiping dog crap from his car's door handles every day for a couple of years. Loads of them on youtube feeds, no uniform, no body armour, some have an orange band on the arm.
