"Should Scotland leave the United Kingdom?"
There we go, I've just saved however many millions of pounds and months of testing/deliberation.
Short, succinct, to the point. Which means you'll never see this question on the ballot papers......
I think the separatists would be more likely to get a favourable result with "Thatcher is the bh-we of the devil and the tories their foetid spawn. Vote yes." There we go, I've just saved however many millions of pounds and months of testing/deliberation.

nahhh .... more like: 'do you want Scotland to be an independent country' as (full) United Kingdom name would have to change, old one be consigned to history There we go, I've just saved however many millions of pounds and months of testing/deliberation.

Well, this is interesting. I've not been on PH for a few days and now that the ink is drying on the 'Edinburgh Agreement' and the campaign is now about to start, I see we have some new faces here which is great, but I also see a different stance from some of the old school. Let's see what information starts to come out, eh?
And now, things will really start to get interesting...

Don't see why? The rest of it will still be the UK, just Scotland wouldn't be part of it any more (assuming the Scots voted that way of course....)It could then be known as "The United Kingdom of Great Britain And Northern Ireland But Not Scotland" or similar

Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission (EC), said that any new nation state will have to apply for membership under international law.
This would mean a separate Scotland having to sign up to the euro and the Schengen Agreement, which permits free movement without passport checks, unless it can secure its own version of the UK’s opt-outs.
His intervention came after Olivier Bailly, a senior spokesman for the EC, said that a country that leaves an existing member state would be treated as an “accession state” instead of inheriting EU membership.
The interventions are the most authoritative expression yet of what would happen to Scotland after separation and fly in the face of Alex Salmond’s assertions that it would automatically remain part of the trade organisation.
Shocked SNP ministers resorted to claiming that Mr Bailly, one of the EC’s most senior official spokesmen, was a mere “press officer” not representing the real view of the commission.

Am I right in assuming most of an Independent Scotland's income would generated from North Sea oil?
If so, that's a pretty finite resource for a 'new' country to set up on is it not? Could they challenge the remainder of the UK in the financial sector for income generation?
I'm sure a lot of thought has gone into this, but I can't help but 'think' the UK would be better off without Scotland. Which isn't necessarily a good thing.

No it won't be, which illustrates the problem with independence, all of this is about 25 years too late. An independent Scotland with the peak of its oil production ahead of it could have been something but oil revenue is dying just when Scotland really needs it.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
