Johnson enabled a bunch of awful people who did not deserve the promotion to become cabinet ministers. They are desperate to bring him back.

Maybe they are more cunning than we thought. Indicate a sunak loss at general election would result in Boris coming back, everyone then votes for sunak.
Nobody who owns or works in a small business has even the slightest affinity to Big Business Sunak. The Tories will get rinsed.

The self made and self employed were the bedrock of Conservatism in the past. They see nothing for them. People in bigger and wealthier organisations by contrast will often be more left leaning by nature or by virtue signalling.

Can we please have a ban on the use of the phrase "virtue signalling" along with "woke".

No remember if you do anything at all for good and noble reasons it's "virtue signalling".

It can't just be basic decency.

Agreed. Just look at the contractors thread.

The use of the phrase says more about the person using it than the target - they just cannot understand that other people don't think like they do.

I should be a natural for the conservatives.
Family background of small business owners from construction, small retail to farming.
I have had my own business from 25 years old, home owner from 21.
But the conservatives really are the nasty party.
Braverman, Patel, JRM, Hunt, Dorries, Boris. The whole lot of ERG nutcases.

I’m not a natural labour supporter either and will be looking at the Libs come election time.
Wasted vote though as you could put a blue rosette on a turd and it would win in my part of East Yorkshire.

Whereas you understand that other people think differently, but you want it banned? wobble

There will be a lot of people in a similar position.

I think some of the responses highlight that rather than ask themselves whether the Conservatives have turned into a vile party that's no longer represent Conservative values and are basically impossible for many decent people to vote for some people will persuade themselves anyone who doesn't vote for them has moved to the left.

Sorry, but my Linked In is full of virtue signalling posts from people in big business. These are by no means political, much is about being seen to say the right things. Trouble is, when someone you know to be a career ladder climbing psychopath posts/tweets about mental health, you know the score.

In political terms, it can help with industrial relations to be seen to vote Labour. People may vote how they like, but when it’s overt - in the media - you always have to look for motives. Unless you’re incredibly naive.

Virtue signalling is and has always been a thing.

Personally, this time around, I would not be so sure. They’ve burned a lot of bridges.

Some seats may prove safer than others.

Without these faux-insults how would they then complain that you've said something they don't like but can't argue against without sounding like a complete tosser.

"Virtue signalling" actually seems like a perfect way to describe big business marketing strategy. In my experience the more they talk of ESG, and all the messaging surrounding it, the worse they treat their employees and (often) customers.

Do you genuinely believe that multi-nationals treating their employees like dirt, and dodging as much tax as they can, are "progressive"?.

So you’re insisting there is no such thing as virtue signalling?

For disambiguation, it is by no means a “left or right” issue IMHO. People sayings but acting (or believing) differently is nothing new.

Pretty much.

Your example is not how "Virtue Signalling" is used. It.is a phrase used to shout down someone because they've pointed out that someone has pointed out that you're a tt. Same with "Woke".

I'd you're getting upset over people putting up a facade on linked in... That really says more about you. Also that is not virtue signalling, it's marketing and has been around long before LinkedIn and we really don't need a new word to deride it.

Perhaps biggest deterrent to the undecided voting Labour is the very vocal and perpetually offended within?

Tories can look in the mirror to see the fruits of their own mendacity. Labour can think about how it looks to floating voters.

Talking about “banning” terms that are entrenched in the vernacular is absurd. Telling people how they can express themselves and with what words is a sinister precedent.

It was a joke. However I remain amazed given the sustained performance of the Tories in recent memory that labour are not just lauded by the masses but that there aren't millions of red rose lapelled pitchfork carrying citizens descending on London. I have no particular party home but the goal couldn't be more open and the opposition often can't even seem to see it. Labour may well win the general election but it feels like even they won't be entirely sure what they stood for. They aren't even doing 'not tory' well.
