I'm sure the French would have sympathised with that thought.

I'd go with Stephen Fry's view
https://bobyewchuk.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/stephe...

“I’d say, bone cancer in children? What’s that about?"

“Yes, the world is very splendid, but it also has in it, insects whose whole life cycle is to burrow into the eyes of children and make them blind. That eats outwards from the eyes. Why? Why did you do that to us? You could easily have made a creation in which that didn’t exist. It is simply not acceptable. It’s not just about not believing that there is a God, but on the assumption that there is one, what kind of God is it? It’s perfectly apparent that He is monstrous; utterly monstrous, and deserves no respect whatsoever."

I am off topic, sorry.

Alternatively he(and all the other countless deities) is made up by man; for comfort, control, consolation and political ends. All that other stuff is Darwin's fault.

It was Parmesan, so they definitely wouldn't.

Our own Houses of Parliament repairs are going to cost ~£6 billion and take 6 years. Sure Notre-Dame is several times smaller but it won’t take much for things to go from the 100s of millions to the billions.
if a fire gutted the inside of houses of parliament wonder if that would make the cost go up much as may be easier to start with clean slate and just the walls - dont see how it could cost more than 6 billion tbh

Remember that story from a couple of years ago where an immigrant scaled the outside of a building to save a toddler?
Wasn’t he given citizenship and a job offer from the Paris fire department? I wonder if he was involved in the relief effort yesterday if so

I bet that bit of France near the Italian border would have sympathised.

People love a bandwagon I guess...
I just don't get this. The pic of the girl and her dad barely even features Notre Dame.

"This is going to become THAT photo," Michelle Bhasin commented. vomit

Nah in his wisdom he knew that the latest patch-it-up renovations they were about to start were the wrong thing to do and that almost total rebuild is the only way to go. For the greater good, in the long run, works in mysterious ways, etc.

I suspect it's well short of a miracle, and just down to physics, the spread of the fire etc. If we wake up tomorrow and it's been rebuilt, that'll be a miracle.

I could have put my house on someone making comment on the use of the word miracle.

Of course..... you knew what I meant.

Still no word from the Vatican on how much they'll put in to rebuild their church The Catholic Church must be one of the richest organisations in the world in both property and actual finances!! Wonder how much they've paid over the years to cover up abuse?

I respect anyone's choice to worship anything they want to but don't expect me to pay for it!! Maybe The Pope is already having a chat with the Head Guy!! blabla

Just to clear up any further doubt the miracle I was referring to is 100% secular in its nature.

Which of the Vaticans churches have burnt down recently? Unless you mean the Notre Dame de Paris which this thread is about. However as has already been pointed out on this thread.....

As a result of a French law passed in 1905, the cathedral became the property of the French State but its use is dedicated exclusively to the Roman Catholic rite. Entrance is free of charge. It is classified as a French Historic Monument.
So who fronts up the rebuild cost, the owner or the tenant?
So i think its outrageous the French state haven't said how much money they'll be putting in to rebuild their church. Or just maybe they're making sure the fires out before they get a builder in to give them quotes.

If the Catholic church believed the nonsense they preached, or actually gave a f**k about their precious artifacts wouldn't they want to help restore the place that housed them, back to it's original glory and restore the faith of the people? No they Catholic church only give a f**k when it comes to young boys.

Cost of rebuild should be met by the French state and voluntary donations.

If the Vatican chooses to chip in too, that would be fine.

If France seeks funding from the EU, UN etc. then that may be problematic.

However, there should be a lot of goodwill available to make good Notre-Dame.
