You might not agree with what she stands for but perhaps be thankful it isn't Kim Kardashian
i.e. the kids do appear to actually give a toss about something.

Understandable considering the climate propaganda in schools. Personally I feel that there are plenty of women who’ve achieved more and are worthier of admiration. Greta, whether you like her or not, has acted as a figurehead to get environmentalism as a priority again. I do feel she’s a puppet, however she’s the one that kids are associating with regardless of who’s setting the message so I can understand why kids are seeing her as inspirational.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-517740...

I just find it irritating that most on here wouldnt listen to a 17 year old mechanics diagnosis, or take notice of a trip advisor review from a still-teenage girl. Or perhaps take financial advice from her, maybe give her the role of Prime Minister. No? but you'll happily swallow all the "facts" that she, herself has apparently concluded. Sorry, but most 17 yr olds I know arent in any position to give anyone any advice or, which is worse, badly criticise the previous generations that have handed her and her sort the technology and knowledge that in their eyes is destroying the planet.

But she isn't really coming up with the clever, sciency stuff herself is she? She's pointing to what's already out there and saying "Come on - take this seriously!". Anyone of any age can do that but because she's young it has more impact. Vantagemech.. said:

Ok then why not listen to the people she is saying to listen to? You know the grown ups with the qualifications and knowledge you require before listening to anyone?Langweilig said:

Could it be because the science is NOT settled? An interesting article in The Daily Telegraph - for Australians. I won't post the link as there's a pay wall.
The problem being we have thousands of kids being led by a idiot who is too stupid to work out that its raining and freezing and still they follow her.
Instead of laughing at her we need a journalist who can find out who is paying her and how much she is being paid she is not doing this for nothing. It was her school who encouraged her to begin with then the media got involved and the circus has been on the road ever since. The time has come for the circus to close down.

If you ever long for a quick downpour to freshen up the lawn, just ask Greta Thunberg to drop by. The Swedish teen scream queen is a one-person precipitation provider.
Rain follows Greta everywhere. It was raining in the UK when she took off for America last year:
Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist, set sail Wednesday on a racing yacht bound for New York. The boat cast off from the Mayflower Marina here in this old English port city around 3 p.m. local time during a brief pause in the rain.
And it was raining in the US when Greta arrived:
“Just before 3pm,” reported The New York Times, “a shout went up from those waiting in the intermittent light rain to greet her.”
The Greta Effect may be even more potent than the notorious Gore Effect. Former British PM Tony Blair, too, once observed the eerie connection between climate change talk and instant cold snaps.
Of course, rain was a constant visitor during Greta’s fame-building school strikes:
Greta Thunberg cut a frail and lonely figure when she started a school strike for the climate outside the Swedish parliament building last August …
On March 15, when she returns to the cobblestones (as she has done almost every Friday in rain, sun, ice and snow), it will be as a figurehead for a vast and growing movement.
The poor girl is so beset by personal precipitation that she wears a raincoat almost everywhere:
"In less than three weeks we will move into a new decade and ... I cannot say enough how important this decade will be," said Thunberg, bundled up against the cold in a yellow rain slicker.
"This is a decade that will define our future."
Greta’s Australian worshippers are sometimes caught in Thunbergian conditions during their pilgrimages:
The conference organiser gave me a worried look and asked where I was going. “Jag är med Greta”, I responded – “I am with Greta”. It was a phrase often heard around the streets of Stockholm today.
Braving the grey skies and cold rain, I made my way to Stockholm’s central square.
Despite all that constant rainfall, Greta stuck to her script during a February speech in Bristol:
Climate activist Greta Thunberg told a UK demo “the world is on fire” yesterday as she stood in pouring rain.
And now she’s been hit with another downpour in Belgium:
Protesters at a rally led by climate activist Greta Thunberg on Friday denounced governments for taking urgent action against the coronavirus outbreak but failing to treat global warming as an emergency.
Several thousand people braved the rain in Brussels with the 17-year-old Swede, marching through the city that is home to the European Union’s main institutions.
Greta’s problem isn’t global warming. It’s local raining.
