The 'overpaid door openers' jibe shows one of two things:

You're a fool who doesn't understand why they're there or you do understand why they're there but wish to sound foolish.
So enlighten us.

I don't commute on the tube.

Dreary, monotonous commute?

I work for LU, buying trains as it happens. Live in Parson's Green and commute to Sloane Square. Who is this guy?

Can't.

I'm on strike.

You don't commute on the tube?
Perhaps one should mind ones own business then?

Just a thought...

Surely purchase ledgers can be automated - 'we' can then rid the system of people like you, save money and all feel we're doing our bit.

I use the Tube regularly. I don't use the Tube to commute.

Pretty clear the unions think it's actually run for their benefit.

Love it when people moan about people doing supposedly piss easy jobs for st loads more money than they earn, yet they won't apply for these jobs, nor make an effort to better themselves.

Its a British disease.

As I understand it, such jobs are rarely advertised outside the Union inner circle - if you're not close friends or family of a union member you won't even know about the job, let alone be appointed!

You understand it wrong then.

Entry level jobs (like station assistants) are advertised via the Tfl website. There was a recruitment drive a few months ago for this.

For jobs like train driver, station supervisor or duty manager positions, they are advertised internally via the company's internal website or in internal publications.

The unions have as much say in the recruitment and allocation of vacancies as USDAW has on Tesco's recruitment policy.

It was train drivers we were discussing previously....

What are you talking about? People are moaning because these militant scumbags are yet again for no good reason trying to bring the city to a standstill, cost the economy millions and millions of pounds and ruin the days of hundreds of thousands of normal everyday people who are just trying to get into work.

Add all the smileys you wish. You're still unable to explain your first point and that reflects very poorly on you. That you only obfuscate with your second only serves to compound the stty argument.

Thanks for the permission smile

Re-read the last couple of pages and note where I made a silly statement to highlight another.

You buy trains so I'd guess you'd know even a tiny bit about railway infrastructure.

Can you see the underground driverless in five years time?
SSOW all drawn up, signalling systems checked off, all staff trained and commuters convinced of the safety by 2020?

Or do you agree with me that this is nothing but political gesturing spouted by people who see no difference between 3rd rail DC and the M25?

And that's primarily due to a Union resistance rather than practicalities.
