I'd say it's bizarre and insulting that people portrayed George Floyd as a saint and that he became a modern day face for a fight against racism despite the tenuous link that the action actually was racism rather than poor training / excessive force / police brutality.
Yes and no.

Floyd was no saint and, I agree, his beatification in the media was unpalatable given his criminal history.

However..... (!)

He was most certainly a victim of racism. In some parts of the US (in many parts actually), racism from the police is appalling. Do not go driving around some cities in the US at night if you are young and black. Very risky. It shouldn't be this way.
That's really a topic of conversation for another thread (which i'm sure has taken place many times).

You can only really determine whether it was racism if Derek Chauvin and the other officers with him had an agenda against black people and set out to take the life of one. Otherwise it was a case of excessive force / police brutality. Whether he was a racist is not something which was put to the jury.

Policing based on statistics may not be the best way of doing things, but I don't think it's necessarily racism. Even in this country if you're wearing a hoodie and standing around on the street at night it may attract attention from the police for a chat. Should it be that way? Maybe a piece of clothing or 'looking suspicious' should not.

Hmm, sounds a bit "hardline", not sure I want to live in this place you're describing, it doesn't usually end with one thing...
They're amongst the softer of my policies for when I replace Johnson.

The idea is obviously to get the one group with “skin colour in its name” (that feels left behind) up to the other group before you can actually have the equality.
Discrimination in the name of equality. Hmmm...............

Just think of it as "levelling up" for race or sexuality or gender or whatever it might be.

At least we wont have to hear from people moaning about it anymore. I hope.

Just in time for the Qatari World Cup, remarkable.

Then only shortly after they’ll take the knee on Boxing Day because of course, they know racism always pops up after Christmas.

I am telling you that you do not have to be a racist to believe that taking the knee is an ineffective, gesture politics type affair.
Totally agree, it can't be a coincidence that the number of reported racist incidents has gone up since they introduced it.
Over 40% apparently.

It's the right thing to stop doing it, I hope the England team follow suit.

Reported racism has gone up 40% since footballers started taking the knee? Can I ask where those figures come from?

It does feel the UK has become worse for racism for a number of years. I didn't link it with footballers taking the knee. It was getting worse before that.

Reported being the operative word.
It's a good thing if people are feeling more confident that something will be done. I suspect such incidents have been massively underreported for decades, along with all crime.

I think it's more likely that people feel more confident to report racist incidents, than a sudden upswing in racism due to a few footballers kneeling.

When Zoon says "it can't be a coincidence" on a thread about taking the knee, I hardly see my statement as 'twist-tastic'. Therefore both of your sentences above are demonstrably wrong - have another go trooper. hehe
