According to PHE it's 60% more transmissible than the alpha strain, with single dose vaccine recipients less protected. If PHE has got it wrong where's the alternative data coming from?
is this the same as when he said the new stain last tear was 70% more infectious yet was actually found to be 6%.I'm ambivalent on the lockdown measures. Clearly we want to open up as early as we can, but infection numbers look exactly like the beginning of the largest wave last year. It looks pretty certain that the link to hospitalisation is broken by the vaccination programme, but just when we finally appear to have the upper hand, is that something you'd bet the country on? This is something that's very easy to have an opinion on in hindsight and from the comfort of your armchair...

To be fair, if they're going to get things wrong, I'd much rather it were that way round.

Take a look around you at all the activity.I'm ambivalent on the lockdown measures. The roads are busier now than before the virus.
What practical difference to transmission does this continued 'lockdown' make? It's deckchairs on the Titanic in terms of transmission, but high impact in terms of business and normal life. It's incompetent.
Take a look at some the the States in the US. Proper libertarian free marketeers allowing people to make their own judgments and no worse off because of it.
We have a pretend Tory who flip flops like an electricuted trout beached on a bouncy castle because he's desperate to be popular and has now dug his grave with the sofa seekers.

We're dragging off topic, however isn't it relatively common/expected that over time a virus can become more transmissible (and typically less lethal)?
That is what we are often told.Seems to fit past Coronaviruses as well, as it is thought highly likely that the last Coronavirus that emerged in 1889/90 killed a million people before it settled down and became just another of the viruses that cause the "common cold".
I don’t see how this can possibly be Boris’s fault.
How could he have possible known a health secretary he identified as “totally fking hopeless” on 27 March 2020 go on to fail to deliver on PPE and be totally useless.
How can we trust a single thing Dominic Cummings says. The man has never said anything true in his entire life…apart from all the stuff on Brexit or indeed anything I might agree with.
Let’s not forget Jeremy Corbyn wanted to send all our PPE abroad to Nigerian lesbians.
Etc..
Anyway. Forwards to victory.

Boris has full confidence in a colleague he's repeatedly breasted for being useless. The same colleague whose brief includes protecting the health needs of all of us.
Is it good leadership to know your subordinate is useless, in charge of a vital function, yet keep him in position?
not useless compared to Boris. Is it good leadership to know your subordinate is useless, in charge of a vital function, yet keep him in position?

Now I know he's one for the ladies, but Hancock is pushing it too farIs it good leadership to know your subordinate is useless, in charge of a vital function, yet keep him in position?
I'm not sure whether being 'breasted' was a Bullingdon right of passage or an autocorrect of 'berated'? Either way, if Cummings is telling the truth, and I have no reason to disbelieve him, neither Boris nor Hancock have any place in government. On the face of it they're responsible for thousands of deaths.
