I doubt it was a spy plane. I think it was actually the Maccy D'd drive-through-o-rama drone, spotting for the best place to put their first drive through. Come the invasion and post war tribulations, in the name of democracy, it's most important both sides get fed equally, equitably and profitably.

Now it is said it was lost before it was shot down.
The US made simlilar claims during the cold war with the U2.
Then the Ruskies said "we have Mr Powers"

He's wrong. Iran would not be a profitable market for Budweiser, given its official "No alcohol or Gays stance". Macca D's have always been able to cater for the local market.

'fraid you're wrong. In the days of democracy (DoD's for short), the Iranians will go back to drinking Arak. Believe me Iranians drink alkehol. They still do, by the tankload, so to speak.

BBC said:
Iranian TV has shown the first video footage of an advanced US drone aircraft that Tehran says it shot down near the Afghan border.

The film was captioned "RQ170 - advanced US spy plane" and carried on the Vision of the Islamic Republic of Iran Network 1 channel.

The images show Iranian military officials inspecting the aircraft, which appears to be largely undamaged.

US officials have acknowledged the loss of the unmanned aircraft.

Pentagon officials said they were concerned about Iran possibly acquiring information about the technology.

The drone, known as a Sentinel, is the first such loss by the US.

The US has no diplomatic relations with Iran and US affairs in the country are dealt with via the Swiss embassy in Tehran.

Iranian media said the foreign ministry had summoned the Swiss envoy to to express its "strongest protest over the invasion of a US spy drone deep into its airspace".

It said the ministry had asked for an immediate explanation and had demanded compensation from Washington.

Iran are going to be milking this one

Chinese and Russian military officials have requested to send experts to Iran,
in order to examine the American drone that crashed in Iranian territory earlier this week,
Nasim Online news website reported on Thursday.

Thats hardly a surprise. What is silly is the US flying their more secretive UAV over a place where such a thing could happen.
Then as soeone on here said, I suspect its not as high tech and secret as the Chinese and Russians would like.

Probably not. When they use such a craft, the next one is already being developed. It "broke its tether". It is programmed to return to base and land if that occure. It apparently malfunctioned and landed there or near the border. That explains it being undamaged as oppossed to "shot down".

Wouldn't seem a lot of point having it if you didn't use it in places where they are not meant to be

I wonder if they considered blowing it up where it landed.
