Anthony Worral Thompson caught shoplifting
Discussion
If he was using the self-scan machines, I think I am right in saying that any purchases of alcohol through those machines have to be verified, because of the age restriction. So therefore if he toddled off with bottles of wine, without having triggered a verification from a member of staff, it would be pretty obvious that he couldn't have scanned it. Not surprised he had his collar felt.

Not necessarily - yes you need age authentication - but at a guess he was "bulking out" rather than hiding it? eg, picked up 4 bottles, scanned 3? Much harder to pick up on?Apache said:
Why is this guy so reviled by the way?
Not sure. I've never found him to be that compelling a chef to be honest, but nothing much to "hate". He can come across a bit smug at times, but then most TV "personalities" can.I get the feeling that he was a good chef, built a TV persona, peaked, and didn't have the "content" or "niche" that, say Rick Stein, Jamie, or Hugh F-W has to sustain a longer TV career - became a bit "b list" ?

Or you scan some Value Cheddar and cheapo wine multiple times instead of the expensive items, you then get a receipt for the correct number and type of items but pay loads less.Celebrity Kleptomania is not a new phenomenon.

You also don't have to do anything that might attract attention regards re-scanning things whilst being observed.
It would only be picked up if they saw you abusing the veg weigh scales elsewhere in the store, or noticed that the description of what you were bagging didn't match the screen.

the daily wail has said that he was using the self serve machines and not scanning wine and cheese then walking out with it..
You what?! I only have to breath near the bagging area to get an 'Unexpected item in bagging area - remove this item before continuing' alarm
