Labour had 52% of the MPs for London in the 2010 general election, and by the time of the Mayoral election, the coalition had dropped substantially in popularity.

Put Boris in a national constituency and I tend to think he would walk it.
To put it another way, Boris is worth about 10% to the Tories in any vote that he features in.

Anyone who votes labour is stupid. Hell I have a great friend who is from oop north and he and his family are idiots really as they staunchly vote labour and are incapable of seeing why not.

I remember watching the runup to the election and someone from tv was interviewing some northern bloke who was going on about all the stuff labour had fked up. The interviewer then asks if he will be voting for labour again and he immediately goes "Oh course mate I aint votin for them thatcher lovin tory scum"

Said it all to me. I have never come across a more ignorant viewpoint politically than northerners. hey will always vote Labour "Cos o wot that Thatcher woman done".
Maybe 'what that Thatcher woman done' didn't affect you or anybody you know, being from the magnificent South and all rolleyes It might interest you to know there's ignorant, idiotic scum who always vote Tory as well and it really does show arrogance to suggest anybody who doesn't bow before a picture of Thatcher every morning is a moron. Does it not occur to you different people will have different opinions and vote accordingly? The 'if you don't agree with me then you're wrong' attitude never wins anybody any friends, just a tip smile

Really the only ironic bit of what 'some northern bloke' said was the 'Thatcher lovin' bit. The Tory party fell out of love with Thatcher 20 years ago.

Yes it's not like theres anybody here who does that hehe
The Thatcher woman definitely didnt affect my family but then even if she had my family would not be ignorant enough to not see why she did what she did. She was one of the greatest leaders this country has ever had along with churchill.

The simple fact is Labour have always and will always be a bunch of socialist vote buying union supported business strangling idiots.

Anyone who votes for a party solely because they are not the thatcher party which seems to be the standard line from most northerners like my mate and his family. "Ill never vote for those thatcher loving tories" deserves nothing but derision.

I used to vote tory however this latest bunch are a shower of so wont be voting for thema gain.

Ironically, a lot of the people that like to bemoan Thatcher destroyed the UK mining industry (ie, the crusties, etc) are now those who are banging on about Climate Change and want to send us back to the stone age.

In fairness it's easy for you to say that, maybe if you lost your job and couldn't put food on the table as a direct result of her policies you would have a different view and mentality.

Not sure I'd go quite that far.

The word 'socialist' gets thrown around a lot on here, usually towards anybody who doesn't pray to the god of almight Tory five times a day but the fact is Labour stopped being proper socialists (according to socialists, not according to me) a long time ago. Vote buying is sort of a staple for all political parties dont you think?

My parents have always voted Labour and they're not northern. I do find somebody who always votes the same way irrespective of the situation to be somewhat curious though generally.

So leave out 'socialist' and 'union supported' from your Labour description and you've got the current Tory party? smile

Nope the last Labour party made a profession out of vote buying. Free laptops and internet for the poor just before elections being one of the most blatant and therefore sticks in memory.

Creating a simply massive civil service for job creation. I cant really think of all the vote buyimg tactics they employed but there were numerous and they were obvious compared to what other parties have traditionally used.

And they have once again allowed unions to take massive control and the unions are now calling strikes every two minutes harming business through both lost man hrs and global bad pr.

Oh yes and as to the lost your job couldnt put food on the table. Heres a novel Idea move to somewhere there is work rather than sitting around complaining there is no work locally. Look at the stink kicked up when a politician a few months or more back suggested that if there werent enough jobs locally people should look further afield.

He was nearly lynched for having the audacity to suggest people get work away from where they live.

I am not just a bit of a prick. I am a full blown prick. Its a generalisation but i have never met another group more ingrained in political ignorance than northeners. Others are willing to consider things objectively.

All this time Boris has been spending on the Olympics - I hope he has been concentrating on his normal Mayoral duties - you woudl think that would keep him busy enough.

The most amazing thing about that video was the people chanting BORIS! BORIS!.

I dont recall a politician ever having their name chanted by thousands of people in a crowd.

I swear if there was an election tomorrow the man would probably win without trying.
I think Boris should watch his back.
It put me in mind of the scene in the film Gladiator where the the Emperor Commodus has to stand there listening to the crowd chanting the name of the general Maximus, smiling but all the while planning his downfall.
I bet Dave has a team of bag carriers in Downing St. working on Boris's downfall as we speak.

You ignorant prick. I'm ashamed to be on the same side of the political spectrum as you, and I'm a NORTHERNER. Not someone from the midlands like, say, Yorkshire. A proper northerner.

And you sir, are a .

But did Thatcher destroy the mining industry ?

Ok mineworkers have always been a volatile group of workers, ready to strike
at the drop of a hat, and some of their union leaders I wouldn't let run a
jumble sale, but isn't it simple economics that if better cheaper coal
is available from Poland or IIRC Australia, then UK coal will sell a lot less ?

Of course, for some folks, they always must have a hate figure to personalise
it all, but I hardly see how one politico destroys an entire industry.

Back on topic, I think Boris is the best thing since sliced bread.
Ok some of his policies are a bit suspect, but he has lots of
personality, far more than that PR man we've got leading the country
right now.

Look at which parties are in control of which parts of the country. There is a trend (more affluent tend to be Tory which always suggested to me the more educated majority vote Tory. Odd way to look at it I know) I'm from Trafford in Manchester and we have been in control by the tories (thank god) for as long as I can remember. If you must generalise it then most on benefits or work in public sector tend to prefer labour policies. Business owners (job creators) tend to go Conservative. If you must be a bell end assume how many people on benefits or PS there are in the south?

Your regional rant is just stupid. Stupid people tend to vote labour and there are stupid people in the south too.

Did I say two? I said he and his family thats more than two. I have met and know many northerners and I dont recall any of them ever having leanings toward any party other than Labour.

You are right though in that it also tends to be trend on wealth vs poverty and education. I suppose it also supposedly means the south is wealthier or better educated than the north.
