It's not a very good analogy, it would be closer to imagine a flight from London to Brussels that unnecessarily diverts to Strasbourg every month because one of the cabin crew is French and has shares in the duty free shop there.. It would be ridiculous unless you had shares in the company and were required to pay for it, then it would be indefensible.

It would be even more appropriate if when you pointed it out how wasteful it was you were accused of being racist because it was a foreigner who was wasting your cash!
Don't forget the 5* hotels for all the passengers and crew for the 4 night stopover, oh and the baggage handlers who have had £ooo's of specially built equipment arriving on a dozen or so chartered flights.

oh and did I mention that not only have the hotels just so happen to have doubled their rates, they are all fully booked so a cruise liner has been booked for your comfort?

It's often said that with airlines - like motor racing the best way to make a small fortune, is to start with a large fortune... Maybe there is a nugget of usefulness in the bizarre airline analogy smile
