Jazz - would that be swing, ragtime, or bourgeois wink
Since you ask .. it's Swing Jazz. Practice my 8-count steps to it every week. wink
That's 'dancing' in case you're a Precariat.

It could have been classic, bebop and a lot more besides, but posts get lengthy very quickly that way. It's all bourgeois to the beeb survey sonar

Funny that, I took against Jazz and won't have it in my ears because of my Dad's constant playing of Count Basie and Courtney Pine records as a kid, I remember my first day at school when all the kids were talking about 5 Star and Michael jackson and the only musical references I knew were Aka Bilk and Fats Waller.

I though my penchante for video games and friendships with manual workers might have done me down but it looks as if to be an Elite you just have to be indescriminate in your tastes.

As we both know, from the lack of any need, you can't buy class smile and at any beeb level.

I'm elite apparently, How absurd. My existence is very precarious being in the Architectural business and I have no savings.

I love the term 'Precariat' though, a fine example of a portmanteau, that will become the new 'chav'.

Indeed, and that risible calculator is basically trying to tell us the bloody opposite.

Apparently I am Established Middle Class, more down to my parents than me. Maybe because I don't like Rap music?!

I'm Elite apparently, which I find completely absurd.

Altering the answer to one question makes me working class.

This is complete piffle and utter twaddle imo.

Elite and I even like hip hop and know a lorry driver.

Though clearly I only socialise with such lower classes to make myself feel more important

I thought this was all a load of bks, but it turns out that I am Elite - so it must be true!

I shall have to start practising my sneer for dealing with my inferiors.

It does work on some odd principles. I filled it in exactly as last time, and obviously it came back with technical middle class again. I then repeated it with the same answers for finances and interests, but when it came to people you socialise with, I unchecked all the professional occupations of people I know and chucked in some more fictious non professional friends and it went to established middle class...

WTF?

They'd be better asking "would you use words like "piffle" or "twaddle" wink

This survey is deeply flawed IMO.

I just did it twice, feeding in all the information it asked.

First time around, it said I was a 'New Affluent Worker'.

Second time around, the only thing I changed was not ticking 'lorry driver' on the 'what do people you know do for a living' section, as I only really know one lorry driver so he's not exactly representative of my social circle.

The end result changed from 'New Affluent Worker' to 'Established Middle Class.'

According to the 'New Affluent Worker' description, my parents are members of the traditional working class (wrong), I live in the ex-industrial North (wrong), and I don't enjoy going to the theatre or listening to classical music (wrong).

I pretend I don't know Andrew the lorry driver, I jump TWO social classes.

How on Earth does that make sense?
I can think of at least one truck driver who would disagree with that.

and balderdash, and let's not forget to ask about the rules for use of the apostrophe.

As an apparently established middle class person, I'd call it a load of fking bks
