Mermaid is as ever spot on in his observations of the complete liability that is Ed Balls. Millipede will presumably use the old labour approach of keeping his enemies much closer than his friends to his side for safeties sake so with any luck Balls will remain the Up that he is in New (Secondhand past it) Labour.
Imagine having his awful wife (??) Yvette Cooper on the same team. Beware the Ides of March Mr Millipede beware the Ides of March! That can not be an easy alliance by any manner of means be it a Balls/Cooper or a Balls/ Miilipede or a Millipde/Balls up. They all deserve each other IMO. God what a dreadful, self serving unappealing obviously two faced self interested lot these modern politicians really have come to be. Obviously!
How can a whole political party vote into office the wet blankets we see in Cameron and Millipede? As for Ed Balls he should hang his head in shame a disgraceful politician years of "brown" nosing Gordon through his disastourous term in office.Agreeing with his profoundly atrocious descisions resulting in this mess, how he has the audacity to give opinions and options on live TV just amazes me people have such short memories politicaly.Imagine having his awful wife (??) Don't forget that the UK is way more indebted then any of those countries, so they may be secretly laughing at us. In fact, of all the first world countries, we are in third place for debts, and probably have no chance of repaying these debts. If interest rates go up, it'll really be hard times. Who will bale us out? What will that mean for the Euro and the UK?
We have control of our own currency. It's not too late for us, yet...dandare said:

Shhhh! The little-Englanders won't like that at all! Green and pleasant land; sunlit uplands; royal family; control of own currency; put a stop to immigration; kick out the foreigners; british banks lead the world; return to empire; Britannia rules the waves etc etcOzzie Osmond said:

Ozzie you are definitely stuck in a time warp. You seem to be posting from 50 years ago (or more!).PhillipM said:
Laugh all they like, we can do what we wish with our currency to bring more trade in if need be, that's not an option for the EU, as the worth of the euro is held up by the other countries.
Quantative easing? Is that a good idea? The Euro could do that as well, I suppose (or is there something in the constitution forbidding it?).Or you could put it that the value of the Euro is held down by the some countries. Germany benefits greatly from the Euro weakness. They would be in almost as bad a state as the UK if it wasn't for the Euro. Hardly anybody could afford to buy German products if they weren't tied to the Euro. Make loads of money, bung the poor countries the odd bale-out, and make some more cash.
They (the Germans) pretend to worry about it, but as long as the PIIGS stay in, they (and I) are quids (or Euros) in.

Delusional? How many Rolling Stones WERE there?? I'm sure some of them died but there still seem to be about 8 of them left...
Their counting is so bad they must have the same auditors as the ECB. Funny you mention TLNofTP... It's embarrassing, I hate its jingoism and nationalism and I always have. My Dutch girlfriend, who is an ardent leftie and votes Socialist in Holland, loves it. Go figure...

Green and pleasant land; sunlit uplands; royal family; control of own currency; put a stop to immigration; kick out the foreigners; british banks lead the world; return to empire; Britannia rules the waves etc etcThere is a minor problem with your theory here Oz. Many on this thread actually have significant experience of Europe, be it living or working out here, i.e. its our life. You rather ironically ARE the little Englander based chap trying to tell those with vastly more actual experience than you how to effectively suck eggs.
This is the reason you are laughed at and derided.
The reality is that nobody is laughing at anybody because there isnt much humour in this situation for anybody, everybody has their problems. The UK has one big advantage of their own currency to use a tool, just the same as the Swiss do. Those inside the Euro do not. You seem to think this is wrapped up in some Empire v Europe jingoism thing, whereas its just tools to use.
Countries inside the Euro have problems. The UK has problems. It was, is and remains still to be a race to the bottom.
Von...you might be working from the mistaken notion that French politics and system is similar to ours. Marine le Pen holds significant political power and weight, arguably she is the most popula politician in France currently. Her and her party wield significant electoral influence throughout the process and frequently what she says guides what the others say in how to respond to her. Her and her dad scares the crap out of mainstream politicians in France.
And thats during the stable peaceful times! Though I will grant that as French politics is basically in a state of war with itself 99% of the time, those happy days are few and far between.
