Malaysia Airlines Plane "Loses Contact"

Doesn't that depend on the shape of the object? Surely if the object was shaped like a wing it would have lift properties?
Yes. If it was stable and the right shape to generate lift. But if as proposed, the plane disintegrated, chances of the anything like that existing around the FDR I'd suggest are slim. So most likely it'll drop "like a stone" regardless of forward speed. The poster seems to be working with the (very common) misconception that things fall faster as their horizontal speed drops. But the two are not connected at all, unless the object is generating lift like a wing does. But to do that you have to keep the wing stable etc. Which is unlikely if it's disintegrated.
However say the cockpit was chopped off, the rest of the plane could "fly" as a single piece into the ground/sea with the wings having some effect. Blow it up though and it turns into 1000 pieces mostly falling in a nice steady arch.

Idiot.
As mentioned, they're regarded as a much nicer airline to fly with than anything the UK has to offer. And a good safety record to boot.
Sadly, the prognosis doesn't look good for MH 370. Details a sketchy, but apparently Vietnamese Naval radar tracked them going down in to the sea..
No distress calls or emergency signals suggests something quite catastrophic whilst airborne.
Totally uncalled for. You are very lucky to be still contributing to this thread .....As mentioned, they're regarded as a much nicer airline to fly with than anything the UK has to offer. And a good safety record to boot.

Same aircraft with the wing-tip missing a few years ago.
There will be a lot of people with itchy bottoms for the next few weeks.
Are these wings glued on or is that the air bus or did I dream that? There will be a lot of people with itchy bottoms for the next few weeks.
I wonder how you would check the integrity of the bind after something like that,

I fly with MAS most week, the food is awful, but they have never lost a plane in 40 years, their last accident was over 40years ago on a small domestic flight, at least that what CNN just said.
I suppose it depends upon your definition of "lost" but the New Straits Times seems to maintain a list in expectation of unfortunate situations like this.unrepentant said:

Such a sadness that this forum has become as pathetic as Pprune....
Rest in peace to all those lost souls, I truly hope that this was not another silk air/Ethiopian disaster.
What a strange comment, I don't see anyone making light of the tragic loss of life but it's inevitable that folk would like to know what went wrong, unfortunately we're a bit light on hard info at the moment. I for one would be interested in knowing if this plane was the same one that had problems on 1st August 2005 and had to put into Perth,Australia rather sharpish.Rest in peace to all those lost souls, I truly hope that this was not another silk air/Ethiopian disaster.
