Apple announces MASSIVE profits

Apple haven't made a computer since they gave up with motorola chips and switched to intel. An apple computer is no more than a clone running an apple operating system.
Being a fan of the operating system I can understand. But your point of view is simply the nonsensical ramblings of a fanboy.

Source is their accounts
I'm referring to them as income taxes simply because that's how Apple refer to them in their report. I don't know how the taxes break down. They say their tax rate for the next quarter is expected to be 26.3%, but again I haven't seen a breakdown of that
And I'm talking about Corporate Taxes on their profits which obviously is not clearly shown in the figures you are looking at. They do appear to be sheltering their profits very aggressively. These tax avoidance games may come back and bite them if they start upsetting their shareholders or if they rely on too much corporate borrowing in order to keep them sweet.I'm referring to them as income taxes simply because that's how Apple refer to them in their report. They are playing a rather dangerous game, in my opinion.

Its an interesting question when Apple fanboys will stop.
The profit on apple phones is high. Very high. Its enough to make the complany look good even though sales in other areas are falling.
Its enough to put them at the top even though samsung sell far more phones than apple.
I don't think anyone can say that the Apple tech is ahead of samsung, most of the time its behind samsung.
So the only aveune left is that an apple fanboy will pay the massive premium for the badge, or because they think the operating system is far superior to android?
Any way I look at this it seems the apple fanboy likes the badge a lot.

And those are superior in just about every way I care about. The phone? Nah.

Apple are designing the best ARM chips in the world for their application (and arguably full stop), and the gap between them and their competition is not shrinking.

To put this to bed - Apple do not manufacture anything. They design all their products and when I say design, that means from initial concept right through to manufacture drawings and files. So they do not manufacture anything but they certainly know how to manufacture all their products.
I know they don't, but then I never said they did. Would appear you don't have to say very much at all to have 'fanboy' frothed at you, mind. And bang on time, the anecdotal evidence (not you, jammy). How pointless is that? For every problem somebody has with Windows, somebody has one with Apple, and vice versa.
I like their computers, don't like their phones, and that's that. There's bog all fanboy about that; if I start to like somebody else's computer (or operating system) I'll use it. I'm posting this off a Windows computer without sticking anything in the subwoofer in excitement.
For the benefit of the anti-fanboy, I like, in no particular order:
- Build quality
- Hardware / software integration, so no pissing about with drivers
- No virus concerns (in 15 years, anyway)
- Hardware / software support integration
- The trackpad
- The software
If I put those all together, for me personally, nobody else makes a package that I prefer currently. So, as I said, for my needs they provide the best solution.
But of course, personal opinions are forbidden when it comes to IT.

Could they not do something for the greater good with this money?
It's not their money, it's the shareholders. Obviously they could and probably do, do something 'good' with some of it, which notionally would still be a big amount but only in so far as it could be deemed ultimately to be in the shareholders benefit.I've got an Apple phone. I've had several. It does what I want it to, I know how to use it, it has some paid-for apps and some hardware that I've no desire to research and pay to replace on a different platform and our music libraries are in iTunes. When the time comes, I'll probably get the next one, because that will be the path of least resistance. I have no interest in phones, I don't really care about pouring over technical specs for what amounts to bragging rights, nor in what's fashionable. I'm comfortable with what it costs.
Advocacy wars between different fanboy sects of phone nerds are completely irrelevant to most people, I think.

And it's the shareholders who will ultimately call the shots as to what the company does with its cash mountain.
I would reckon they may not want to see such a profitable and cash rich company saddled with what is really unnecessary debt (i.e. there is no actual commercial reason for the debt other than to fund share buy backs) all to avoid tax.

I suspect they are in the crazy situation, like many big US corporates, where they are unable to repatriate those non-us profits without paying US corporate taxes. BoRED S2upid said:

How could Apple ever be considered a monopoly? It's a fashion brand over anything else fashion sells and is very profitable.

Their provision for income taxes for the 3 months is $6.392 Billion. I'm sure it's minimised in every possible way, but they're still paying massive sums with a tax rate of around 26%
Source?Do you mean "Corporate Taxes" rather than "Income Taxes".
And is the figure you quote the taxes they expect to pay on their profits or are they lumping transactional taxes (such as VAT etc).

If my Nexus 7 is anything to go by I'd say iOS is far superior.Nexus 7 has become a laggy slow POS whereas the original iPad I've got still works like a charm.

Its probably the best known, but that has nothing to do with being a monopoly.
