The reason I ask is if some one grabbed, slapped, punched or made an aggressive gesture at your new born you would in all honesty be devastated.
Knowing that it seems odd a person would do any of the above joke or otherwise thus I am left to assume the person in question is basically a an deseves a slap himslef to knock some sense into him. The fact the father did not attack him seems to suggest it was more of grab swipe etc than a punch as I suspect most parents would be unable to control the urge to protect there child.
situations like this could so easily get out of hand. example your in supermarket with new born some halfwit goes to grab your child as a joke (you dont know this) fearing for your childs life you grab nearest thing to hand an attack said halfwit. Sadly the thing you grab is a bottle of own brand vodka and you kill them....whoes to blame I would say the person who went to grab the child but courts would see it differently I suspect.
Being stupid is not a defense gabbing at a new born child that is not your own is just moronic an deserves punishment (by the law)
The logic fail here is that you are assuming the guy grabbed, slapped, punched. The reason I ask is if some one grabbed, slapped, punched or made an aggressive gesture at your new born you would in all honesty be devastated.

If you can't envisage a father being restrained enough not to attack someone who did that to his child, why do you assume that's what happened.
Is it more likely Dad just stood there and watched, or that a punch wasn't what happened. It just got reported that way.
IF THE GUY GRABBED SLAPPED OR PUNCHED A CHILD I WILL PICK UP MY PITCHFORK AND JOIN THE CURRENT CROWD ON THIS THREAD. NO QUESTION. NEVER SAID ANY DIFFERENT
I just think you lot are being led around by a headline soundbite which will end up being nothing as usual.

My baby is 6 foot four tall and this second dan blackbelt at taekeondo and does MMA, but if someone smacked him in the face and assuming they survived his response then I would be dealing with them too

My two pennorth. I heard this on the news last night and then read about it later. Something does not add up. If I'd been the hubby (partner) 'I'd' have been the person arrested for laying into the nutjob!! And he must be, let's be truthful. Hit a baby? FFS!
However, either that baby is strong or something is not right.
Baby taken to hospital, but not kept in for observation but released.
Yet the mother said, I quote, the assailant left a "very big fist mark" on her forehead.
I await further news.

Unbelievable.
I have a five week old daughter, I wouldn't have been as restrained as the father in this case was.
Punch, grab, whatever.
There's no defence for this, why would you grab or punch a doll amongst a group of people? Why?

I don't understand why some people can't just leave other people alone! And then when they do something, come up with a lame defence for something that should never, ever have happened in the first place.

Jesus mary mother of god, WTF,
Could have happened to anyone????????
Anyone who thought walking up to a stranger in a supermarket with a pushchair and thinking "oh thats a realistic doll, I know i'm going to punch it in the face for a laugh"
It's not often i swear online these days but really, fk off you stupid fking !!!!!
From the report, it seems they spotted a work colleague of a neighbour and her 63 year old husband hit the baby after they walked over.Could have happened to anyone????????

So, not exactly strangers and who knows how the conversation / actions played out. A silly sense of humour seems to be all that is at play here and it backfired.
Unless, of course, people think this 63 year old guy punches babies for fun. That's the only other way to look at it. Which seems more likely?

It was a mistake, a bad attempt to be funny, and luckily no harm done.Twice in recent months I've asked a mum if the baby in the pram is real or one of those dolls. Bizarrely very young babies are so perfect they do look like the dolls some 'odd' people buy, or the ones given to young girls to make them think about getting knocked up.
The bloke deserves to feel the full weight of the law. Then maybe people will engage their brains before punching what looks like a doll (what adult takes a doll to a supermarket ffs?).
