It's gone - the spire - the two front towers are still there.

Terribly sad, I can only hope damage is minimised, but it doesn’t look good.

Is it a world heritage site?

There were 2 or 3 on the roof directly under the scaffolding about 2-3 mins ago. If they make it out of that its a miracle.
Just surprised they don’t seem to have a number of high rise appliances tackling it.

What a shame, it's a beautiful building.

Paris firefighting crews are considered the very best in the world for large cities.

The problem they have is the structure of the building which is entirely made of wood and suck up the water and risk of collapsing at any moment. That the reason they do not use their planes or helicopter. The firefighting crews are inside the Cathedral but their main mission is to make the area safe and try to save the art work. This is an extremely difficult situation.

I'll try to keep you updated.

I'm reading comment from the authorities that is an 'accident', so was it one of the construction workers or more responsible up on the scaffolding? They've been removing works from up there for a while now.

Or more sinister?
There has been a spate of attacks on Catholic churches etc this year.

Such a shame. Lovely building, one of the nicest in Paris IMHO.

I believe they say they have part of Christ’s Cross in there if you believe in that sort of thing.

Very sad for France and religious folks.
