I've stopped my young daughter playing in the garden because of this. Apparently a Russian consortium of paedophiles now has a satellite orbiting the UK targeting children. Concerning stuff- Parents beware.
Balls to that, a passer by could easily see her through the window. Perhaps you ought to lock her in the basement?

at the risk of going against all you lot, I have to say I would not want my house shown on this site and do not blame them

if I saw the car driving around whilst I would not rally a mob, I would ask him to stop filming and ask for my house to be removed, sorry perhaps not logical but I like my privacy and I see this as an invasion of

where does it stop...?

this is very different to a map or indeed google earth...

Affluent? Well it's not the ghetto but I certainly would aspire to live there.

It's amusing how he thinks Street View will be a useful tool for the burglar. How exactly? Does Street View tell you the types of locks on your windows and whether you have some nice jewellery in the house? rolleyes
Is it the 'affluent' village that's a stons throw from Milton Keynes?
The village housing estate is on the edge of MK, 2 mins from J14 of the M1. I work on an industrial estate just up the road.

The village housing estate has a Hungry Horse pub within it's boundary. 'Nuff said about affluency I think....
There's a Broughton near Aylesbury as well - maybe it's that one?

What Google are doing is disgraceful - these middle class homes are clearly invisible to the naked eye if you`re an unscrupulous burgular (much like the school in the Harry Potter books), And google`s "Street View" is just facilitating Burglary, Paedophillia, Murder, Terrorism, Rape, Tax evasion, Fraud, Terrorism, immigration, speeding and more terrorism.

ban this sick filth!

It's not - it was in our local paper yesterday.

Wasn't there a chap on here who wanted his house removed because of fears of paedophiles? Not because his kids were pictured but because his front garden had toddlers toys in it.
Please tell me you are making that up. No-one could be quite that breathtakingly moronic.

I despair sometimes.
I just checked I wasn't going crazy. The original thread is HERE if you fancy a laugh.
No laugh there, sadly.

Chris Morris was, and remains, a fking prophet.

Right, to all these people that are so happy to moan, can I point out that the camera was invented in the 1800's as was the car. Since then it has been possible to combine the two.

Here it is in picture format for the severly retarded:

+

=

(I'm aware that particular camera doesn't take polaroids!)

GOOGLE IS NOT THE ONLY ENTITY WITH ACCESS TO THE ABOVE!

When this google photographing crap first started, I remember a newspaper article being run in which they interviewed an ex-burglar.

He said what a great thing it would be to be able to case houses online, check out their security, escape routes, what they might have etc. all without having to 'loiter' and draw suspicion to yourself.

great eh? smile
'Newspaper in interview with an ex-burglar about burgling houses and having a favourable quote shocker!'
Also more like a bit of bullst bravado from the 'burglar' being the big man in an interview. A bit like the wannabe ganstáz in Liverpool when that Ross Kemp spoke to them. "yer init mon, gets thems gunz in like 1 minute yeah, do the killin yo" FFS.
There was a case in the US a couple of years ago, where a body was in a remote area, and maybe a print out from Google Maps of the location. They asked Google to investigate and found that only one person had ever visited that bit on Google Maps. They gave the cops the ip address, the ip cross referenced to the isp, the name and address of the person.

And they found all the other evidence they needed for the murder case. Guy was given life. (Proper life, not the UK life which means 12 minutes).

That's the one I was thinking of.... it's not bad but I wouldn't call it a village? It's more a borough of aylesbury

[flamesuit] I've got to admit, I'm not comfortable with the idea of StreetView. Google are collecting an immense amount of information every day, logging searches from each users' IP address, logging the records of videos watched by YouTube users, and archiving large portions of the internet. I can understand their motivation for those, as they can help Google to more acurately target marketin and adverts to potentially interested people - after all, that's how they make their money. But I don't understand how taking millions of images depicting every street in the USA, UK and eventually the world can help them make more money.

Should a private organisation be in possession of such a huge chunk of information, the likes of which not even our governments have?

Have you never sold a house that went onto rightmove or similar - and if not - when/if you come to selling your house - will you not allow your estate agent to post pictures of it online?

Its funny that people will happily allow an estate agent into the most intimate areas of their house to take photos of every room (including any valuables), and make floor plans. These are posted online for anyone to see - or posted out to every Tom, Dick or Harriett who requests them. They even let complete strangers trudge around their house under the pretence of being "genuine buyers"

And yet fuzzy pictures of a view that anybody walking or driving past their house would be able to see are somehow worse?

Who's to say a private organisation hasn't already photographed every house in the UK from an unmarked Range Rover with tinted windows, with no intention of publishing the photos on the internet? Who's to say a paedo or professional burglar or the mafia or something hasn't already done this?
