If transocean own the rig why don't they just suck up the oil and sell it themselves. thus making baziliions and bazillions instead of letting sonbody else get most of the profit.
Because they're a drilling contractor. They don't own the lease.

looking at the live feed it looks like its throwing out a load of brown mud instead of the black oil it was throwing out yesterday so maybe they're trying?

Definitely looks more like mud than oil today.

ETA: the position of the debris and lighting are different as well, is it possible the camera location has changed?

That is because the heavy mud being pumped in is coming out along with the oil. If the mud begins outweighing the oil flow, then it will be successful.

...and if, despite many tonnes of mud the well keeps flowing through the leaky BOP, they'll probably try a junk injection and try to block up the BOP with crud to reduce the leak rate.

From the pressure readings, it seems that the well is already choked off by debris further down in the annulus. Given that it's a HUGE high pressure well, without the debris it'd almost certainly be flowing more, i.e. the partially closed BOP is not the limiting factor on the flow.

Have crossed fingers, toes and nads - damn it STOP LEAKING YOU FLICKER!!!! frownfrown

Seems to have slowed in the last few minutes as I have been looking at it.

(not claiming any credit mind you).
