Are there no supermarkets, local shops or public houses where you live then? He only needs to find another 8 hours a week.
I suspect for a lot of people that'd be difficult in the currrent climate. For eg there are 5 pubs near me. One closed last year for good, one is currently closed down, two are for sale but on one wants them. And that's in the prosperous south east.

Does the benefit change make it easier or harder for people to be in work?
Around here (MIdlands), there are still firms on short working ours and others that have a total ban on overtime, so it's not too rosy.

I'm sure all you cynics of welfare claimants will be very pleased to read that "the government has decided to reverse its plan to scrap mobility payments for disabled people living in residential care", that's according to http://www.lcdisability.org/?lid=20598 ; I found this out this afternoon whilst visiting my 26 year old son who has cerebal palsy (since birth or soon after) & has been unable to walk at all!!! Personally, I think some of the posts here are disgusting & you do not realise how disabled live & I shall not be looking back to see any responses to this post!

There are people so selfish and materialistic that if they see a person with a disability being given a few quid, all they are concerned about is that someone has got some money that they haven't. Their good fortune in not having a disability doesn't even cross their minds.

When some of these anti social benefits fools find themselves stricken by illness they may consider what stupid remarks they have made. Those genuinely in need of financial, moral and structured support most certainly should receive that support from the Nation. The greed factor is so corrosive and ugly.

if you expect me to disagree you will be waiting a bloody long time

However I'm not so foolish to believe that all claimants are genuine
