This is what Tinman and others have argued would happen because of ASSange. Now governments have the excuse. After porn filters (which no politician would be seen opposing), it is easy to block out political opposition etc. Oh, and who were those on here going on about how the internet cannot be controlled?

I actually think that is true. Although the internet is an amazing thing, I think we all have to work harder as everything is 'now' and nothing is confidem goingntial anymore.

I would quite like it if it went away for ever.

I'm going to be completely honest here and say, I couldn't give a fk if the internet shut down tomorrow. I preferred it when you couldn't instantly uaccess information at the flick of a mouse, very liberating. Likewise mobile phones.

The problem is that a government that claimed to be for smaller less obtrusive government is making government bigger and more intrusive.

I personally wouldn't hold too much truck with a very vague article - nothing wrong with consulting over how to make things safer for kids. With this government we'll no doubt see a damp squib of a suggestion, followed by a back track at some point.
