I'd suggest history would argue otherwise. Look again at the map of where Christianity started and how all encompassing it is today on page 1 of this thread. true that, and it's much easier to "convert" pagans than already religious people1: Paganism IS a religion.
2: No, it's actually easier to convert the religious than the non-religious. The Jehovah's Witnesses, for instance, have a much better conversion rate among active Christians than they do among Atheists.
