Originally it was 'you're killing everyone by not wearing a mask, manbaby yadada'
Then when that was roundly proven to be incorrect it was 'You should wear one to reassure nervous people'. That was pointed out to be nonsense.
Then it was 'You should wear one to be polite'. Again, utter guff.
So now they're reduced to this as a way to try and criticise (and the irony is, if you don't post a photo, you simply get told by them that you're lying).
The bottom line is that they don't like to feel they were completely taken in by all this mask nonsense, so it's much easier (if rather pathetic) to try and attack those that have been pointing out the absurdity of it from the beginning, and this is all they have left to do it with.

You think you've won the argument.
In reality nobody outside this little bubble gives a toss.

That's refreshing to hear, EB, and a step in the right direction IMO. However, it'll only take a small rise in COVID-19 cases and the usual doom mongers will be back (Gurdasani, Reicher, Greenhalgh, Michie and the rest) demanding the return of masks. I wonder how Liz Truss & Co. will react this time around to those shrill demands?
Precisely. Masks are back in Germany (public transport) and, as you say, there's an awful lot of love for them in the UK from those who want to control, and from those who want to be controlled. Brave Fart said:
Indeed. My sense is that the fearful and doom mongers will look to Europe and say "You see? The Germans/French/Spaniards are wearing masks again, so we must follow suit!" Said doom mongers do not have science on their side, but since when has that deterred them? They just lie. Actual evidence of mask efficacy? Pffft, who needs that?
Question is, will Liz T say "Get lost, masks don't work and we will not mandate something pointless", or will she cave to the shrill voices of 'The Science' (TM) like her predecessor? Will the new government be beholden to Twitter like the previous one was?
Liz Truss strikes me as someone who will do anything to be popular. For example, someone asked her whether she would consider raising motorway speed limits and she said something like 'I wouldn't rule it out' when clearly there is zero intention or will to so any such thing. Question is, will Liz T say "Get lost, masks don't work and we will not mandate something pointless", or will she cave to the shrill voices of 'The Science' (TM) like her predecessor? Will the new government be beholden to Twitter like the previous one was?
I'll be delighted to be proved wrong, but if The Science TM pushers start shouting for masks again this winter (and they will), it would not surprise me if she saw it as an easy win (just like before) irrespective of the real science.
As to whether people will do it, it's been made very clear that the vast majority of the public do as they're told without questioning it.

How is this thread still going?
Perhaps if your so worried about masks don’t go to Rome. I’m here at the moment and some people are wearing masks. Do I let it bother me? No. Should you? No.
Perhaps it’s better to get on with your lives and let people do the same. If they want to wear a mask then that’s fine to.
We're not bothered about people wearing masks, we're bothered about the love for masks in certain (sometimes influential) quarters and the possibility of them being mandated again (as they have been recently in Germany for example). Especially since it's now obvious they are of zero benefit when worn by the general public.Perhaps if your so worried about masks don’t go to Rome. Also, as an aside, a little saddened to see people still living so fearfully of the very air that is keeping them alive that they live with the things seemingly glued to their faces regardless of where they are or how nonsensical it all is.
Hope that helps.

Speed limits are mandated and are sometimes nonsensical but where's your thread on complaining about that? And the impact it might have on the people who obey them but don't know know any different? There are probably many other things mandated that are seemingly nonsensical but they also haven't got you incensed enough to start a thread about them.
If masks were mandated again you'd presumably ignore it, just like you supposedly did last time. So what's the big deal, no impact on you? Just ignore the rules you deem to be nonsense and get on with your life maybe.
It would seem you're more obsessed with masks than the people who wear them who think nothing of it!
Really? There is no evidence at all of speed limits having any safety benefit whatsoever? If masks were mandated again you'd presumably ignore it, just like you supposedly did last time. Are you absolutely sure..?

Had a text from my doctor surgery 3 days ago saying....
'Due to increased Covid infection rates in the community, from the 3rd of October 2022 we will be asking that all patients and visitors coming to the practice wear a face covering if they are able to do so'
I guess covid gets asked to stay out of the surgery for the 5/6 days until people start wearing masks
And this is why this subject still bothers me. We know now that these things don't work, and yet still people are obsessed with forcing them on to us! 'Due to increased Covid infection rates in the community, from the 3rd of October 2022 we will be asking that all patients and visitors coming to the practice wear a face covering if they are able to do so'
I guess covid gets asked to stay out of the surgery for the 5/6 days until people start wearing masks
And beyond that, we have people (see above) comparing not wearing one to not wearing a seatbelt or suggesting that not wanting this pointless theatre is akin to not wanting speed limits!
It is baffling the lack of critical thinking in the world these days, not to mention the desire of so many to unthinkingly obey and pillory those who dare question The Science TM.

You appear to have misunderstood or have changed a few words to better suit your point of view.
Anyway, I'll clarify for you. The reference to speed limits was that SOMETIMES, in certain locations, there are nonsensical speed limits. These forums are full of people pointing those particular ones out. Yet some people who may think they're nonsense still stick to those speed limits without protesting.
I guess that makes them sheep, obeyers, non thinkers, etc except they're not questioned for their stupidity quite as much as 'mask lovers'.
That's what I don't get. It seems it's not the principal of following certain rules, even if you disagree with them, that annoys you. It's specifically mask related. I don't get how a simple face covering (which is seemingly optional for the 'independant thinkers') can cause such anger and frustration. Relax a bit, ignore what other people are doing and focus on your own wellbeing.

And I strongly suspect you are too.

Says "I have no problem with others wearing masks". Then says that when others do "That's the problem!".
He's not saying he has a problem with people wearing masks, he's merely pointing out the logic fail. His only 'problem' is with the difficulty that the 'worried well' are having in letting go of this nonsense.

I will post my situation in the other thread but in terms of masks, the midland based hospital's are ramping mask use back up.
Same here, unfortunately. I had to visit my local hospital this week.
Reception: Could you put a mask on please?
Me: No.
Reception: Err... okay well that's fine, take a seat in the waiting room please.

The only "logic fail" is your inability to understand plain English.

BTW, nobody seeing someone getting all stampy feet and refusing to wear a mask thinks “there’s someone with balls”, quite the opposite in fact.
Why are you trying to conflate someone politely saying 'no' to the mask theatre with 'stampy feet'? Why are you then trying to shame them?
And the one I'm really interested in, why do you love the masks so much that you go to this much effort?

Mrs BC and I are cruising on the Seabourn Ovation. There’s been no requirement for us but the crew were required to wear masks. That ruling ended at midnight last night and the relief & delight of the crew is obvious, particularly the room stewardesses who have such a physically demanding job.
It’s also nice to see all their faces.
I guess no one explained to them that it was 'no biggie'. It’s also nice to see all their faces.
This ending a ruling at a set time always amuses me. At the point where management decided they no longer needed to force masks onto everyone, why not just say 'okay, you don't need to bother with the theatrics anymore guys'. What did they think was going to happen at 11:55pm but not happen once the clock struck midnight?
I'm reminded of Nadhim Zahowi when they were pointlessly forcing masks on kids in school and he was unable to justify it when interviewed on TalkRadio. He claimed that a study was about to be published that proved masks were of benefit, and that 'children will not be made to wear masks a day longer than necessary!' Two days later the study was published and the conclusion was that there was no evidence to support the theory that masks helped reduce transmission. But they made kids wear them for another fortnight anyway...
Utterly insane, the theatre that went on (and is still going on in some places) regarding making people wear masks.

The one “I’m really interested in” is you showing me where I’ve said I “love the masks”. Looks like you’ve just invented another thing to stamp your feet about.
They say everyone needs a hobby but you masks obsessives really are a bit weird. At least CCD likes to learn new words and now amusingly squawks “sea-lion” in every post.
Mate, if you want to wear your little mask, that's fine. But why always hurling the insults at everyone who doesn't want to join in with your mask pantomime (which is, thankfully, now about 97% of the population it seems)? They say everyone needs a hobby but you masks obsessives really are a bit weird. Always with the insults, yet never with any rational explanation for the mask wearing. I find the mindset fascinating.

I'm sure your Google skills are as good as mine and you can find whatever you want to support an opinion for or against masks - but the key point is why are you so bothered now that the majority aren't wearing them?
If you're looking for actual evidence then actually you won't find any supporting your opinion. But you just keep believing.

…and from nowhere the mask mandate at my workplace has been dropped. One rather suspects it has finally sunk in at board level that wearing masks when trying to develop relationships and win new business puts us at a significant disadvantage to our competitors.
This is good news (if slightly surprising that there were still companies playing along with this), but surely you weren't bothering anyway? A simple 'I'm exempt' is all that is required to ditch this dying pantomime. As to the subject of letting callers in to the house if they're wearing a mask, my view is, knock yourself out if you're that scared of the air that you breathe. That said, if it were (say) a carpet fitter it wouldn't make a jot of difference to me. If it were someone who's intelligence was relevant to the appointment (a lawyer or financial adviser perhaps), wearing a mask would make me question their mental faculties.
