If one wakes up to find that Israel and Iran have wiped eachother out overnight thanks to a nuclear exchange......
Will that finally bring peace to the Middle East..
In the spirit of the stabbing thread, have you been on the sauce again? Will that finally bring peace to the Middle East..
Israel and Iran aren’t the only barriers to unicorns and rainbows in the ME.
At least this was a fairly measured attack, no damage and likely making a point rather than raining death and destruction, plus a little Happy Birthday message.

True.
It was a ‘look what we could do/what we can reach’ demonstration I think.

Iran have said there was no attack
I find that a bit bizarre.Maybe, and hopefully, Iran is trying to de-escalate. Maybe they're concerned that they've kicked a hornets nest and don't want this to go any further.
Either way I hope both sides will now step back and cease direct military action against either other. (I'm expecting the "proxy" conflict to continue as "normal")
But this is the Middle East and religious nutters and political hard-liners are involved so who knows.......

I wonder how many back room conversations the US have been having with people?
Iran probably doesn't want to send another massive attack in response to a single missile because they would look like the majority aggressors.
They can't do any damage with a smaller attacker. They said they would respond to any retaliation so if they don't do anything they will seem weak, if they attack smaller and fail they will seem weak, so pretending it never happened seems sensible.

It does have the feel of adamantly claiming that you didn't just eat a delicious plump breasted pigeon named SpeckledJim, whilst sat in front of plate on which is sat the half eaten carcass of an indeterminate avain species. Not sure but maybe the fact that Iran launched 300 missiles that barely penetrated Israel and Israel launched one missiles that penetrated iran sent a quite strong message .Maybe, and hopefully, Iran is trying to de-escalate. Israel: Look what we can do
A minor but successful strike asks Iran "do you really want to play this game?", while Israel's western allies will be breathing a collective sigh of relief that it was a symbolic response.
Also, I can't help but wonder if the Iranian leadership weren't absolutely bricking it when they heard that a single ballistic missile was headed for their nuclear sites from a nation that doesn't have nuclear weapons

They have very carefully never confirmed nor denied."However in Nov 2023 amid Israel-Hamas war Israel minister of Heritage who was a member of the war cabinet publicly stated that dropping a nuclear bomb over Gaza is an option"
Seems like Iran played a sound game, in the grand scheme of things; the deterence question is open (and there's question over whether Israel beat off an attack w/o allied assistance), the Israeli response was a token gesture and the Iranians are free to sit back and say "if that's what it takes to sate you, then okay, we'll be the grown ups and draw a line under this..."
All square, they can go back to more lethal but less brinkmanshipism day-to-day.

They are not far off apparently, they may have a very limited capacity now or within a few weeks, so I read; might depend on the damage done over night. Or are you referring to Iran?
