Just listening to R4 and it is being reported that agreement has been reached on the wall funding so resumed govt shutdown likely avoided, but apparently the Tangoed controller might be unaware... will look for a link
Wait until Fox News declare that the deal isn't enough, then he will throw a tantrum and refuse to sign itQatar are trying a trump. "Oh we had nothing to do with that", or a Saudi "we had nothing to do with Khashoggi"...
Reuters are reporting that Qatar is attempting to keep tighter control of its investments abroad after finding out it may have unwittingly helped bail out a Manhattan skyscraper owned by the family of Jared Kushner,
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-qatar-fund-kush...
Qatar loaned a significant amount of money to Jared Kushner in 2018, in the name of saving his skyscraper at 666 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan from going bankrupt. The question has been whether Kushner abused his White House position to ensure that the U.S. government gave Qatar favorable treatment in return, by ending a trade blockade.
Is this a sign that Qatar expects the Kushner pay-to-play scandal to be exposed soon and are trying to get ahead?
Speaking of Kushner, why does someone who is worth $300m need the trump campaign to pay his legal fees?
Acording to NBC, two payments of $55,330 and $42,574 have been paid to the law firm of Winston & Strawn, in payment of legal fees to Kushner’s counsel, Abbe Lowell who joined that firm in May of 2018.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-campaign-pai...
Not that this is unusual. $276,000 was paid by the campaign to Michael Cohen to satisfy his expenses in representing Trump himself, $590,000 to a firm representing Trump's former communications director Hope Hicks. The Trump campaign has expended almost $7 million in legal fees in the past two years.
Using campaign funds as his own piggy bank?

The crowd chanted "lock her up" at trumps El Paso rally last night.
It's been 824 days since the election...
.
But Stone,Cohen,Flynn,Manafort, etc are all blokes... What a daft bunch It's been 824 days since the election...
.
"We’re building it right now. We don’t even say build the wall anymore. We say finish the wall because we’ve built a lot and we’re renovating a tremendous amount..."
Last nights rally was trump saying these same things as a candidate three years ago. It is almost as if he hasn't been president for 2 years and had control over his own foreign policy.
"We want to spend money in OUR country", "We want to bring our troops home. It's time" , "I didn't save our country. You know who saved our country? You saved our country...God",

I think this is a huge mistake from the Democrats.Despite their noble reasoning that it heads off another shut down, Trump will scream that he's won and that he's the greatest president ever etc.
His support won't notice or care how little money they've actually given him.
It makes the Democrats look weak and Trump look strong.
The vast majority of the country blamed Trump (after he said he'd own the shutdown etc) and his polling nosedived, so they should've hung him out to dry.

The dems were also trying to get an agreed cap on immigration detention numbers because trump admin are ignoring the previously agreed cap by almost 10K
Lets also remember that this is a significant climbdown by trump if he signs it off. He'll have to spin this somehow as a win, lets face it he wanted $25bn, then $5.7bn, now only $1bn for improvements not new fencing, and Mexico arent paying.

It will be seen/spun as the the Democrats caving, I assure you.
Trump is already saying the wall is being built when it's not FFS. And that's with no agreement and no funding!
What will he be like once they've given him some money, even it's just supposed to be for renovations?
He'll be even more insufferable. He will see it as HUGE win and it will be spun as such.
Mexico were supposed to be paying for the whole thing remember! No-one seems to care about that anymore. Who's going to care if the money is for renovations?
Although another shutdown would be unpalatable, it would seriously damage Trump.
Huge own goal by the Democrats.
I'd be furious if I was an American democrat today.

Agreed.Something along the lines of "I told you we were building it anyway and now even the Dems have accepted it's going to happen......Promised made, promises kept!"
This is why the Dems will lose in 2020. Trump has his core supporters under some kind of spell where whatever he says is "True".

With Trump willing to bullst and lie about anything, then no matter what the Dems do he will claim as a win. Even if the Dems said no money for anything he would claim its being built.
Ultimately Trumps bullst train doesn't matter. He's already committed the cardinal sin of raising income taxes and taking from the pocket of average Americans... That he's done so to give his rich mates a break will only give the Dems more ammo come election time. For this, he's eliminated his chance of re-election.There are very few true Trumpettes, in 2016 he won not because people wanted to vote for him, but because they wanted to vote against Hillary. His disastrous mid-terms are proof of this.
It'll only take one state to go blue next election and he'll lose enough electoral collage votes that he won't be able to stay in power.

Agreed, there's a lot of trouble brewing over those who haven't had their tax refunds yet because of the shutdown, and those who have found they are significantly worse off.
8.4% down is the average.
There was a fair bit of analysis of the effects on middle America of last year's tax I don't recall much being in the negative for a few years yet. The pain for John Q Taxpayer was safely down the road, where most people won't be looking.8.4% down is the average.
A poster above explained that this year low rebates is down to the 'system' not being geared up in time to implement the new regime - so could it be that next year tax rebates will be restored to somewhere approaching expectations, just in time to cast a rosy glow over Trump for the next election?
Edit: although conversely, there's this kind of thing

swamp, swamp, swamp
President Donald Trump on Monday publicly pushed the Tennessee Valley Authority to save an aging coal plant in Kentucky that buys its fuel from one of the president’s top supporters.
“Coal is an important part of our electricity generation mix and @TVAnews should give serious consideration to all factors before voting to close viable power plants, like Paradise #3 in Kentucky!” Trump tweeted.
His missive came just days before the TVA board is slated to vote on the future of Paradise Unit 3, a 49-year-old coal plant that the federally owned utility has said would be too expensive to keep operating.
The 1,150-megawatt plant gets the bulk of its coal from a subsidiary of Murray Energy, according to data from the Energy Information Administration. Robert Murray, the CEO of the mining company, is a major Trump supporter who has personally lobbied the president to take other actions to help the ailing coal industry, particularly in regions where he sells coal.

I don't think so, unless they change something again. Whilst many people could well end up paying less tax, they're doing it incrementally on a monthly basis, but getting less year end tax rebate too. The rebate part is noticeable to them, the relatively small amount back every fortnight when they get paid isn't.A poster above explained that this year low rebates is down to the 'system' not being geared up in time to implement the new regime - so could it be that next year tax rebates will be restored to somewhere approaching expectations, just in time to cast a rosy glow over Trump for the next election?
Incidentally, this was on my Facebook news feed this morning, and it wasn't the first person I'd seen making angry comments about it. And we're still early into the tax season...
Again trumps rhetoric against journalists has consequences. Maga hat supporter attacked a BBC cameraman and other news crews at trump rally last night
