Not directly related, but has anyone seen the forest fires that have been edging towards Chernobyl ?

"...there are still fears that the fires could trigger the radiation, or burn radioactive material, that could reach the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, 60 miles away"

There was also this one last month in Reading. It was pretty spectacular. Apparently the place was recycling printer cartridges.

Polly Falconer, who lives nearby, said it was the "thickest, blackest smoke I've every seen".

That'll have been the magenta, cyan, and yellow smoke mixing smile

The cause of all these fires is apparently due to lithium batteries in lots of our stuff that gets chucked out.

Do council run tips ever have fires?

Or just the private ones?

Which lead to this local (Runcorn) optical illusion........note smoke should usually come out the chimney at a power station...........not the cooling towers.

No as there is no financial gain at council owned ones

It's much less prone to spread at a council tip which is, effectively, a car park with large bins in it, rather than hundreds of tonnes of waste piled up.

They will occasionally have a bin fire - especially in the summer, people throw out BBQs with unextinguished embers - but the fire just stays in that container.

Meanwhile, possibly a bit OT but short cutting the process in Essex - just dump the plastic in a field and set fire to it there. Police and local council reportedly saying "not our problem". https://www.facebook.com/gary.thorpe.31/videos/332...

Sounds like a well paid job with a huge amount of expertise.
