Shame so many have gone don’t know, maybe it’s because they don’t have a clue what XR are actually trying to say. Environmental issues or anti corporation etc?
Could this video help?

I particularly liked "...my father was a minor" hehe

Again apologies for a Twitter link but as Harry Tangye says slippery slope but they do seem a bit rubbish at criminal activity.

Probably a good legal reason they used those tiny pink hammers rather than a 14lbs sledgehammer. I’d suspect the toffee hammer isn’t “coming prepared” so they can’t be arrested for carrying them with intent to cause criminal damage.

It’s not about smashing the plate glass and probably armoured window but being seen, photographed, video’d, tweeted attempting to smash the glass. Getting thrown in a meat wagon a couple of hundred metres before doing anything wouldn’t get them likes on SM.

They were outside the pub I was in last night on London Bridge. I didn’t bother going out to see what was going on but there did seem to be quite a lot of them and nearly as many police.

If it’s an illegal action is there a reason that the police don’t just pick them out one at a time until they are all in the back of vans?
There's probably enough van space, not sure where you'd process so many (and they know that) shame so many police stations were closed.

I always wonder what these people actually want the world to look like?
They don't know, and don't care, so long as they are in charge.
One of these idiots was allowed in front of a BBC news camera and demanded that only natural processes be used 'for total sustainability' in farming; these yahoos have no fking clue what the fk they're on about and want us all to starve to death.
Starving to death is the natural state of humanity.
They're at liberty to make that choice for themselves, as I am for me; I choose the path of settled agriculture, one chosen by the inhabitants of the Tigris and Euphrates valleys, the cradle of civilisation, of agricultural science and the capacity to feed everyone even if not actually choosing to do so. If they want to starve to death in some horrid agrarian nightmare they should be free to do so, just as long as they leave me out.

To be fair I doubt the mesopotamian cultures were big on the use of industrially produced nitrogen fertilisers, and they had significantly fewer people to feed.

Police seem to want to be cosy with them. Note the different attitude between policing this lot and other recent protests. You wouldn't believe they were the same police if you didn't know.

My money is on orders from the top. I wouldn't be surprised if Boris's loony ecofruitcake wife is pulling the strings.

A splinter group calling themselves 'insulate britain' have taken it upon themselves to block various junctions on the m25 now.

Looks like they are getting more emboldened.

With tempers high and patience wearing thin in the general public, they might be getting more of the Canning Town treatment.

When (as noted above) the police appear to treat different groups with different methods and seem more tolerant to certain political causes, things will almost certainly take a turn this way as frustrations boil over.
What's actually happening I think is that the eco-nutters, being better organised and funded know how to make sure the police are kept at arms length whereas the 'meet up in London, shout and wave placards' protests can be dealt with by standard crowd policing methods.

Don't worry, plenty of police standing around to make sure they don't get hurt

The limited clips do appear to show the police standing around watching.

Why cant they just drag them out of the way ?

Exactly, they dont look to be chained up or anything.
Ask them to move and give them 5 minutes to clear up and go.
If not get a few police dogs down the line and move them by force.

This country is a total joke. And the state of that lot too. They are all either 19 years old and zero life experience or some 70 year old who probably has a nice civil service pension and nothing else better to do.

Makes me sick.

Whos hoping a 20 year old Sprinter van is stuck someone near by with a knackered injector and is spewing diesel fumes out at them while they sit there?

Anyone injured in an accident which was subsequently caused by this reckless protest should be allowed to bring a claim against them.

You'll probably hear something about lack of resources & government cuts.

Plenty of police all stood around stopping the traffic from running the idiots over, they don't appear to be glued down or fixed to anything. I really don't see why they can't be dragged to the side, handcuffed to a barrier and let traffic proceed.

There's a HUGE amount of training done by XR to their 'Action Groups' (AGs are the way XR avoide legal scrutiny, they encourage individuals to set up AGs and take full responsibility for their actions rather than have any one core group be resonsible) in ways to avoid arrest, then they liase with the police in a very specific manner.
Just the online advice for AGs is extensive: https://extinctionrebellion.uk/act-now/resources/a... and there's a lot of in-person training which goes way further than anything they put online.

There are also a lot of group training courses and then, if they are arrested, they have a ton of legal training https://extinctionrebellion.uk/act-now/resources/l... support groups https://extinctionrebellion.uk/act-now/resources/a... and all manner of information for Tabby and Tarquin to lap up as they decide how best to waste the trust fund... https://extinctionrebellion.uk/act-now/resources/
