I have said it elsewhere, but will repeat here;

We get the politicians we deserve.

We treat them like scum which means we end up with weak candidates, yet are asking them to do some of the most complex and difficult jobs in the country.
Agreed and how we expect to tempt good people when the pay is so poor beats me...
Fortunately not all people are driven by money alone.

Heavens... some are even successful before they enter the political world.
But a lot of clever successful people will not give up a career to become a politician. When you look at the quality of people in parliament you have to wonder sometimes. Just look at Labours front bench as an example. Is that the best on offer for what may very well be our next government?

Keep in mind the Labour front bench isn't the best they have, its the best that will work for Jezza. Remember they have a couple of people playing Mayor or running charities at the moment. Not that I'd suggest they're playing the waiting game.

Also keep in mind the number of millionaires in the House.

Fantastic result for Mrs May, to do so well in local elections in today's environment and with the type of work underway (fixing the st left by Labour/Brexit etc) is a big win and a reflection of how well "real people" feel about her/Tories.
You have a very short memory.
And some very inaccurate news source. The count so far:
LAB: 1473 +37
CON: 866 -1
LD: 326 +40
GRN: 22 +6
UKIP: 2 -93
Other: 98 +11

So it seems that UKIP is the big loser and Lib Dems are the big winners. Labour also picked up some seats from UKIP and the conservatives lost one so no big changes relative to either of their numbers, both major parties came out empty handed as it were. Seems it seems a repeat of the last GE, Labour and minor parties making gains and the Conservatives just holding on to what they had (really not sure how you can call it a "big win" for the Conservatives).

is it fun being an obtuse pillock ?
Factoid: The UK is in GDPR and will be retaining loads of other EU rules post Brexit, even on the Government's own planning (if you can call it that).

PS: how do you know what everyone was voting for? Is this done by a magic spell?

Tories haven't done well because they're any good. They didn't do badly because everyone else is a disaster.

That’s a very fair assumption of the current state of affairs. I think it’ll only worsen as well

Yep. the fact that an openly Marxist cheerleader, and supporter of the Venezuelan government, who share the exact same ideologies, is thought to have any chance at all in gaining votes is damning indictment of the state of UK politics and politicians.

Too much paying attention to the narrow mind-set on Twitter etc., and failing to look up and read what's actually happening in the real world.

Yes, it will be easier to retain current EU legislation but that's not to say that the govt will not amend them piecemeal in future years. As you know, legalisation always evolve.

Completely agree Chris, that and a good dose of just common sense for the likes of windrush, Gurkhas, Afghan translators etc which have a big impact on perceptions.

Firstly yes for obvious reasons initially we have to keep 40 years EU UK laws but when we leave we could adapt and change them to be more appropriate , Being able to change them being the operative word...

Oh yes silly me , thinking people would have looked at the voting slip before putting a cross on it ..

Come to think of it, it's rather like assuming what the verdict will be before you have seen the evidence. Any evidence. And then presenting your massive bill.

Technically no one is for a few weeks....and I susoect that regulation might experience a few tweaks before we leave. And could well do after we go but on our terms.

(He probably uses the same source as you do noting how selfish people are according to how they voted wink)

Just watched the news reports of the election,

The one thing that struck me is Conservative Central Office still haven't got to grip on how to get some personality into the Maybot.

Just look at all the photo opportunities she attended,
She walks (is escorted) up to a group of loyal supporters and just 'takes position for the photo'
Compare with JC who upon getting to his group immediately starts shaking hands & will pick on one person to share a joke/quiet whispered one liner,
It just looks so much more personable
FFS CCO get a grip thumbup

She has a complete inability to talk like a normal person. Her ineptness in front of the camera was a major reason for the plunge in support at the last election.
They need to be rid of her asap (and that's before we start looking at her woeful record as Home Secretary)

I'm surprised that we don't already have a thread about this great woman.

Margaret Thatcher took a couple of years to demonstrate her greatness. Theresa May only took a couple of hours.

Today, she is going to announce her intention to repeal the 1972 European Communities Act.

She has severly clipped the wings of the civil service.

Sir What'sHisName, the civil servant who used to chair many government commitees, is no longer even able to attend the meetings.

By God, this woman is impressive.
I wonder if Don4l still worships her like he does, er, Katie Hopkins?

Good old Don4l, so right about everything. smile

He thought brexit would be a massive success.

I’m miles ahead on that score.

He was in the Germans begging us to sell cars camp wasn’t he? Gone a bit quiet there hasn’t it. Such staggering naivity. Up there with Hannan, Liechtenstein and flexcit.
