Are they going to be building more out in the Shards direction or is it going to be a lone ranger and the rest are more, bunched?
I beleive it is, as you say, a lone ranger.

Most, but not all, the other buildings due for commencement in that part of the world are all on t'other side of the Thames IIRC

I can't be 100% about that though.

I think the core is supposed to be finished around about then.

Aye, I didn't think they'd be opening the lifts the day before or anything biggrin

Just the glass exterior seems to be going up at quite a rate too.

Floor 60 now in construction - 10 more floors and it'll have overtaken Canary Wharf as the UK's tallest building.

More pics...

The current height of the concrete core is 213 metres (700 feet) on floor 60 and it will top-out at 240 metres on floor 70. There are then a further 2 'viewing' floors available taking the total number of floors to 72 and the height to 248 metres.

The construction then continues upwards to 310 metres made up as follows:

From 248 to 285 metres are the 'Radiator'.

From 285 metres to 310 metres are the Glass Frame 'Spire'.

Looked pretty impressive on Saturday night when driving along the road immediately next to the building site! Think I got a blurry photo, will post it up tonight if it's not total rubbish.

Emley Moor is taller, but that opens up the whole structure versus building debate smile

Yep, there was a steel mast and it collapsed a while ago then they built the current concrete jobbie which is pretty tall!

It collapsed due to large amounts of ice forming on the steelwork during a particularly cold winter. The combination of the weight of the ice, and the steel becoming slightly more brittle due to the cold caused it to fall down.
