It's the way he incredibly! seriously imparts his "wisdom" & shares his "brilliant" solutions, his "thinking" existing on a level no one else could possibly ever attain. Sharing little snippets of his colossal "intellect" to us lesser mortals, as though his words & "brilliance" will instantly accelerate humanity decades into the future.
And yet, every! single! utterance! Massively highlights just what a delusional, astonishingly simple, utterly clueless, quite astonishigly thick, absurd, warped little Creature he is. Amazing really.
Are they going to get Bill Shatner to play him in the movie? hehe

He's as mad as Shatner's character in Boston Legal (utterly brilliant TV by the way!).

Vermont's governor has signed a law requiring the state's top election official to send a mail ballot to every eligible voter, becoming one of the few Republican leaders at the state level to buck their party's trend of trying to limit voting access.

The law signed by Governor Phil Scott makes permanent a universal mail-in voting system that Vermont adopted in 2020 to address the challenges to voting in person during the COVID-19 pandemic. It puts Vermont in the company of just six other U.S. states that automatically mail ballots to all eligible voters.

Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House just sent this to the entire Democratic Caucus. If McConnell could ask for the senate investigation into the 6th Jan to be blocked as 'a personal favour'...

ProPublica has obtained a vast trove of Internal Revenue Service data on the tax returns of thousands of the nation’s wealthiest people, covering more than 15 years. The data provides an unprecedented look inside the financial lives of America’s titans, including Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch and Mark Zuckerberg. It shows not just their income and taxes, but also their investments, stock trades, gambling winnings and even the results of audits.

Taken together, it demolishes the cornerstone myth of the American tax system: that everyone pays their fair share and the richest Americans pay the most. The IRS records show that the wealthiest can — perfectly legally — pay income taxes that are only a tiny fraction of the hundreds of millions, if not billions, their fortunes grow each year.

Motorsport is a far more common hobby in the US than here, you'll find a lot of people who run stock cars, midgets, outlaws, dragsters etc, maybe a Wednesday evening or at the weekend, local track or strip. They'll go further afield for special tournaments/races.

It isn't uncommon to see NASCAR drivers at local or regional events, When he was active Tony Stewart was running as many as 100 races a year (inc. NASCAR events). He's now having a go at top fuel dragsters..

If I recall it was one of Billy Connollys travel series, they just so happened to be somewhere and heard a hell of a noise, they looked around to a family running a fuel funny car, on their driveway! preparing for the next event.

There is a lot of dirt / sprint / midget racing on the east side and down in to the south.

...Back on topic I see Manchin is getting grief for resisting the above voter rights stuff.

Oregon Public Broadcasting reported that state lawmakers are moving to expel state Rep. Mike Nearman, who was caught helping pro-Trump rioters break into the Oregon Capitol.

Oh my - he even rehearsed doing it. Lordy there are tapes...

A Republican state lawmaker faces being expelled from office after a video emerged apparently showing him choreographing how he would let far-right protesters into the closed Oregon Capitol days before he did so in December.

“Today, we strongly recommend that you resign from the Oregon State House of Representatives,” all 22 House Republicans said in the joint letter. “Given the newest evidence that has come to light ... it is our beliefs as friends and colleagues that it is in the best interest of your caucus, your family, yourself, and the state of Oregon for you to step down from your office.”

The lawmakers were referring to video that emerged late Friday in local news reports that appeared to show Nearman coaching constituents on how to text him so they could get into the Capitol.

Man charged with impersonating Trump to trick hundreds into donating to a reelection organization that didn't exist, feds said

A Pennsylvania man pretended to be former President Donald Trump or a member of his family in order to defraud hundreds of victims across the country, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

Joshua Hall is charged with fraud and identity theft after federal prosecutors said he misrepresented himself or others while soliciting funds for a purported Trump reelection organization that did not exist.

Instead, Hall used the funds raised -- thousands of dollars -- for his own personal living expenses, according to the criminal complaint.

How Mo Brooks got served his papers. Doesn't quite tally with the story he was trying to create

Edit: Oh Hilarious - there is a tape of it as well showing exactly as described, from Mo Brooks’ security camera. So nothing like Brooks claimed...

Mores come out about that illegal Malaysian foreign lobbying that got Elliot Broidy, top fundraiser for Donald Trump and deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee.

This is from Nickie Lum Davis, a Hawaii businesswoman and GOP fundraiser who had engaged in illegal lobbying, who pleaded guilty to assisting in a scheme to illegally lobby the US government on behalf of Malaysian interests. Davis, who awaits sentencing, agreed to forfeit $3 million. She faces a potential maximum of five years in prison, though prosecutors have recommended she serve at most a few months.

Davis admitted that she had helped Broidy avoid registering as a foreign lobbyist, even as they accepted millions of dollars from a Malaysian businessman to help Malaysia’s then–prime minister, Najib Razak, push Trump to block a Justice Department investigation into Najib’s embezzlement of money from a state investment fund.

Remember Broidy got a pardon from trump. Davis, who last year paid at least $100,000 to a Trump-linked lobbying firm to pursue a pardon, did not receive one.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Goldman has placed Giulianis recorded phone call into trumps overall Ukraine scandal timeline, noting that Giulianis call “happened a few days before Trump finally agreed to have the phone call with Zelensky on July 25, in which Giuliani was referenced by both leaders.” This as the phone call that trump called "the perfect phone call" that later turned out to be the Quid pro Quo call, the one that trump took the transcript and hid then released a doctored summary.

It’s clear that Giuliani was acting for trump and with trumps knowledge which means that Giuliani and Trump were conspiring together to illegally use the office of the presidency to try to alter the outcome of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Bad news for Giuliani as he's under investigation for this.

There's undoubtedly plenty of truth in this but there's also a load of nonsense. If you look at the propublica article and the table in the middle they have two columns at the start "Wealth growth" and "Total income" and then complain about how little income tax they pay. They finally have a "True Tax rate". But it's income tax and with the the exception of Bloomberg it looks like they all paid over 20%. Only a very few countries around the world have a wealth tax. None of these people can actually spend any of their wealth, unless they sell shares, on which they would be taxed.

It's a shame really as the article as a whole makes some good points about how the US tax system could be overhauled but sadly that's a boring subject so they have to tart it up with a load of nonsense and tabloid journalism.

Another Capitol arrest - this time a telephone hearing before a U.S. judge following the arrest, conducted virtually from surroundings more comfortable than a federal courthouse.

"A 24-year-old man from one of Chicago's most exclusive and wealthy suburbs is charged will illegally entering the United States Capitol and engaging in disorderly conduct on January 6.

"Kulas' mother agreed to be responsible for her son returning for upcoming court appearances.

"Yes, I understand I must listen to everything my mother says your honor," Christian Kulas told the judge during at a hearing conducted by phone Tuesday.

"Attorneys indicated Kulas would be staying at his parents' home in Kenilworth. Public records indicate it is $4.5 million mansion that sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. His father agreed to remove two guns from the premises.

"Records indicate Christian Kulas is the son of Mark Kulas who owns Kulas Maids, a company that provides residential and commercial cleaning services across the north and northwest suburbs."
