Something tells me that there's either more to that story, or it's completely made up. Likely the latter or otherwise we'd be hearing about hundreds of Houstonians on rubber speedboats heading towards Calais.

In a new low even for the US a six year old boy has shot his teacher.

I mean we’ve all had teachers we didn’t like. Can you imagine your kid being scanned for handguns everyday when entering school at six years old.

Unreal

Fairly well known on PH that I met a Texan and now have a child in TX - until 18 months ago in Corpus and now he’s in Dallas. I haven’t made it a secret so not sure why you’d think I’d make it up. Maybe another PHer will come to my aide on this one!

It would certainly be a strange long-con if you didn’t just to make this point on this thread!

My apologies, I was replying to your response from the gentleman who has an entire social network with bullet holes in them. Nothing that you've said has been unreasonable.

I really can't imagine how this could ever happen? My niece is 6 and I just can't see how any child that age could do that, and equally how any parent could possibly put their child in a situation where they'd be able to?

What 6 year old has unrestricted access to a handgun? And knows how to fire one? And can somehow sneak it into the school? And has that amount of hatred for a primary teacher to shoot them?

So many questions, it's just nuts to think about it...

I don't know what aspect of this incident that made me shake my head with astonishment the most.

A six year old with a gun, in a school, shoots a teacher dead, or now locked up under arrest.

She's not actually dead. So that's alright.

It is weird, at age 6 the world is pretty black and white with very fixed right and wrong.

Mass shooting in Houston, mass in that a man robbing a restaurant was shot 9 times by an armed customer in the restaurant. He killed the robber, gave back everyone's money and left before police arrived.

Attourney "Roe said it appears to be self defense"

This was after he had shot him 4 times in the back, then another 4 times as he lay on the ground and then one more for luck.

Turns out the armed robber had a fake gun which the shooter realised reasonably quickly - this will be interesting to follow I'm afraid to say!

I’m going to come across as a) a dick, b) contradict myself. But it’s at times like this which is why I’ve felt my experience of Texas as safe. Obviously it’s sad that someone’s lost there life - but in a State where if you play silly games, you win silly prizes. I’m heading out on the 10th March for a few weeks - looking forwards to be back.

I don't think that makes you a dick at all. It is possible to simultaneously believe that tighter gun control would be a good idea, and have no sympathy for an armed robber who got what he deserved in a particular situation. And to make things more complicated, to also think that the shooter should not have shot him 9 times, or possibly at all if he was leaving and no threat.
Of course if the shooter knew the robber's gun was fake, that changes things again. But how can we know, unless he admits it? And why would he do that?

One could also sumise that the robber must be in a pretty stty place (mentally, circumstances) to be pulling a gun (albeit replica) in a public Texan restaurant given the prolific firearm ownership and chances of a tooled up MOP being present.

Not defending committing crime but some people are in desperate circumstances.

Crazy times in America again. My daughter is 6 and whatever Mrs —- says goes. At this age they look up to the teachers as old schooo teachers used to be respected (in this country) how this has happened is beyond anyone’s understanding. So many questions.
