This will most likely go the way all of these talks have gone...

The generals/diplomats from both sides will work hard to try and make something happen, NK will get some money in exchange for inspectors, then a short while later Kim will renege on the deal, cite some issue with the inspectors, and it will be back to square 1.

unfortunately for Trump, he has little option, with the one small caveat that if he can find a good enough way into the NK economy, immediately making NK extremely reliant on the international community then NK won't have the option of reneging.
However Kim will be wary of this, probabaly just wants cash and technology.
Trump will want a win, where he can make money from NK, mining? I have no idea how.

Though it must be said, both Kim and Trump have done well to reign in his st-talking. relatively speaking that is. perhaps there is hope yet.

There's probably only two reasons this is happening.

1) His scientists, or what's left of them after the mountain collapse, have said boss, we stand no chance of solving the re-entry problem any time soon. If the USA kicks off we're going to look tts.

2) Russia or China have said listen, idiot - if you ever got into a nuclear confrontation with the USA - you, your country and your regime would be gone. Cut your losses, stop being a silly boy and keep what you've got.

The only thing that may scupper this will be a demand from NK that the US closes it's bases in the South.

And the North not allowing verification teams unlimited access into their facilities.
There is some chatter that the North Korean diplomat who defected in London (via British Intelligence) in 2016 is the main underlying reason for the Pyongyang policy change in 2018. He was just about the highest-ranking NK defector since the 1950s and he's blabbed many of their biggest secrets and made Kim much weaker and more vulnerable.

whilst I agree it could make him look weaker, it could also have made him look stronger... should NK have been able to acquire weapons from russia/china etc aside from his nuclear programme, which afaik the US still thinks is decades from being able to mount a nuke on a missile and deliver it anywhere worthwhile.

Maybe their ICBM nuke is ready and in production. They will be stuffed into crates and hidden away for a rainy day.

Of course Kim will go back to his people after the meeting stating he has won the war and the USA have surrendered. Any of NK's citizens thoughts of hosting an uprising would give up.

Interesting times though.

When you consider what happened to Kim Jong-nam, and recent events in Salisbury, even so much as a handshake in greeting would look to be a security nightmare for Trumps people.

The most interesting question to me is, where will they meet? No way in hell Kim Jong Un goes to the US. No way in hell President Trump goes to North Korea. How do you meet at Panmunjom and exclude the South Koreans? China? Russia? That will go over great. Switzerland? Sweden? Will Kim Jong Un travel? Kim Chong Il was afraid/unwilling to fly, and only ever went anywhere on his private train.

If Kim leaves home then a lot of his minions will have to go with him, I bet he worries over that. It will be a big party. So don't think he will go far.

So in answer to my own question, apparently the answer is Finland. That is going to be one long train ride. Maybe he is in China trying to arrange for a DV aircraft? Or an Uber?
