To be fair driving whilst blinded by the sun has long been accepted as a justifiable reason to kill, never mind have a bump at a junction.

On the age thing, a mate of mine who's 72 has bought a single seater to compete in speed events.

There has been TV programmes about drivers over 100 yrs old, so I'm surprised at the degree of reaction to Phil's age.

This can be added to the list https://www.skegnessstandard.co.uk/news/transport/... Driver pulls out from minor road, kills motorcyclist on major road, driver claims blinded by the sun, found not guilty by a jury.

In the collision involving Philip Mountbatten, it currently appears that the sun was virtually in the opposite direction to the approaching Kia.

Perhaps he was lawyered up in advance to plead the sun.

I don't think that Phil the Greek would be a very co-operative hostage, your average terrorist would probably be pleased to release him after a few hours.
Phil: Are you sure one can go? Ones not got much on this month, one could hang around a bit longer? Shall one put the kettle on, crack open those hob nobs?

Why would a reflection not be possible ?

I had you down as many unpleasant things, but a think-of-the-children-ist is a new one for the list.
I’m flattered a random individual who I’ll never meet is paying so much attention.

Pedantry alert: unless they're experts in being witnesses to car accidents, the royal protection officers would just give witness statements.
If we are truly pedants, why are we not demanding the thread title is corrected to reflect that he is 97 and it was a Freelander?
Hah! I edited the OP to correct the age but I assume only a forum mod can fix the title. I think when I posted I was distracted by Nicholas Witchell saying the duke is '5 months short of his 98th birthday'.
No excuse for 'range rover' - I think I just didn't scrutinise that pic very closely and went with what the media were reporting.

Interesting discussion though. Must admit if I was in the position of the injured parties, I would have no problem telling my side for some financial reward. I sure as hell would not be expecting well wishes from the queen etc. and appearing on 'ITV This Morning'. When somebody crashed into me back in June they actually text me the next day to see if we (had kids with me) were okay and I text back to say thanks, we are fine. That was it.

Perhaps people see you posting the same thing 20+ times and assume it's a cry for attention?

Yes! It was probably the big mirror on the grassy knoll.

The Sandringham cat has run away again? No wonder the Prince was preoccupied.

At 97?

He’ll be lucky if he can raise a smile at his age.

He was blinded by a heavenly body, apparently.

It's not The Duke's fault if some people didn't get the true meaning.

This chick was on This Morning about her broken wrist.

Not her baby. Not her car. She wasn’t driving. Yet she wants an apology. Haha.

Shouldn’t she be supporting her friend?
