The UK spends ~2% of GDP on defence, Russia oscillates between 4 and 6% of GDP, perhaps with other money directed for industrial strategy. This thread was interesting once.
It’s difficult to compare, Russia maintains a ‘nuclear triad’ which I bet is quite expensive. Maybe an out of date view, but Ernest Bevin was very keen that the UK didn’t rely on the US for its nuclear deterrent.

You think I'm making it up for internet Brownie points ? Fine, but your reply is actually very telling.

Let me guess, you work in IT or similar and have no direct experience of what some of our service personnel experience/ go through. The biggest risk you face is a paper-cut or tripping over your own shoelaces.

You do our forces a massive dis-service by attempting to belittle what we ask of them and refusing to accept what happens to some of them.

The story is true. I really couldn't care less whether you believe it or not.
I'm a member of HMAF and I design and test equipment for MOD.

Thank you coming, please come again laugh
In that case (if true) you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.

Admit it though, you do the IT don't you ... Your attitude is not representative of any operational troops I know. Thankfully.

Ashamed for what? I've not criticised your buddy. I've only laughed at you recycling dits to support your own flawed arguments.

Please, tell me more about your operational buddies!

The original story is now dead on its arse - the Netherlands having a pop at the Russians might be of interest given the 190+ Dutch civilians killed by the Russians when they shot down MH17, but that probably has more to do with the Dutch government talking to their own domestic audience.

Can we pull Estonia exercises into this?

3RHA currently deployed in Estonia with support from reserves and ISTAR regiments. Nice picture showing the scale of the nasty alongside the 105. Both in need of urgent capability updates, but at the back of the queue with AFV updates the priority right now.

Back on topic ? Perhaps Russian activity in The Eastern Mediterranean may be of interest to some.

QE is in the area. Russia are conducting "exercises" involving several warships and 2 different types of aircraft which are carrying the Kinzhal anti-ship missile.
They have also uprated nearby airfields.

The report is inaccurate in some regards concerning the capability of Kinzhal but it is still about the best anti-ship missile there is and this is the first time Russia have deployed it beyond their borders;

You appeared to suggest that I was over-egging the pudding with your "Elevenarife" comment.
The fact that you said that suggests to me that you have little to no experience of what some soldiers go through. PTSD is a problem in the forces.
You have still shown ignorance and that was why I said you should be ashamed. Perhaps more so if you are serving.
You don't seem able to help yourself with your "Tell me more about your Buddies" comment.
Your attitude stinks. It's obvious you fly a desk.

In all fairness he might have made a valid point about MOD procurement.

I used to work in MoD procurement for ATSA back in the day then producing QMGI & CDPIs… I have literally no fking clue what I actually did other than move paper tongue out

Everyone knows MOD procurement is a crock of ****. Talking about your buddy's experience 18 years ago in a LR and ECBA is hardly contemporary discussion.

The West should put a coordinated notice to mariners out. Øresund closed and Bosphorus are temporarily out of use, no warships in or out until urgent maintenance work is carried out.

Also, the whole of the Barents Sea closed for resurfacing and installation of traffic calming measures.

It was an example of the complete lack of/ substandard kit our forces are/ were equipped with. I'm not sure things have progressed much. Glad you agree.

Moving on it was an example of a tragic turn of events. Not so glad you found the tale amusing and asked for more.

What's the latest procurement/ development disaster for the MOD ?
AJAX ?

and yet despite all that we have one of the best equipped forces and almost always have had... There will always be exception to being deployed somewhere not planned for...

edit: and yet talking about others experience is all he has, second or third hand... deriding all other opinions as worthless because they don't match his assumptions. Ignoring others who have actual experience of the kit he's dismissing.

Oh No, the QE. How will it cope with it's sub standard aircraft that you claim...
Have you asked your RAF dog handler yet what he thinks of Link-16 and the Madl system

That mosaic thinking we were on about...

So was a pilot/squadron CO? If so then that holds more weight than just serving on a carrier. I served on a carrier as a Weapons Engineer which means my knowledge of aircraft only extends only to shooting them down.
Just for 98elise as you'll like this. The PoW runs quite an active twitter account for PR. https://twitter.com/HMSPWLS
