Generally though, I could have called drivel on pretty much any of superkartracer's posts which absolutely scream about a lack of reality and show no understanding of making the best of prevailing economic circumstance.
Yet i'm the one who is only 40 , have zero debt , three children ( all in teens ) and was the only earner while the wife looked after them ( hence stable children doing very well academically ) . Regards making the best of economic circumstance , i thought land was mega cheap @ £400 acre back in 1998 , worked out well that for starters . For my 40th i paid 100k for a boat me and family holiday in , cash ...

You are 45 and bar a house or two have achieved fk all .

Like the other poster said , MOST couples drop a wage when they have children in the real world and the extra debt they took on is a killer .

You are a very strange chap arent you. No one gives a st about your kids or your £100k boat.

Never had a £500k mortgage actually. Never said I have and certainly wouldnt be bragging if I did have one - you on the other hand.....

This was a good thread before you turned up spouting your bks. Perhaps take a hint that quite a few people have told you the same.

No you weren't. Ever since you appeared in here you have acted like you are some genius who somehow bested the market and made off into the countryside to your mansion (your words not mine).

Then you got annoyed with someone calling you out on it (the maximum people want to spend on a house for example! WTF) and started reeling off your apparent amazing achievements and started spouting about your posh genius kids and your boat (paid in cash oooh la la).

The reality of life is people will adapt to their situation, if they want to spend more to get where they want, they will. Stop trying to take some sort of high ground because you didn't do it that way and it apparently worked out well for you.

Well it seems you need correcting then -

Appeared - I've posted on this thread for years .

Bested market , no.. i worked 100 hours a week in 20's/early 30's and some things worked out OK and spent the money on things i thought might make money , they did , some never . ( i did move into the countryside as could see people flooding into the city where i lived back in 2000 , and i'm really glad i did , this was more a get away from the crowds than investment ) .

Genius kids? , no.. just well educated , ones autistic tho with very strong math skills , maybe he'll become a software engineer.

The other reality is your generation has never seen how bad things can get ( it nearly happened in 2008 ) , i have ... in the 70's as a very poor child and the 90's when many people folded , it'll happen again and i simply said spending 30% of your wage on a mortgage at such low rates is dicey BUT your choice and i'm 100% fine with that and certainly not angry . Look around the world has never been so unstable , it's a mess.

This housing wealth , it's going to be taken away by healthcare , that is where you want to be investing .

And, superkartracer, I didn't comment on whether you had done well or not. Merely commented on your posts and what they showed.

Nice brag, congratulations on winning at 'life'.

I agree it's a mess and it's not nice having to spend £450k on a house when my next door neighbour spent £230k ten years earlier for an identical place.

But what do you expect youngsters to do if they want a house and prices are mental? Just not bother? I wanted to live in the area, and had the money, and thought on the balance of probabilities it was worth going for. A recent estate agent visit gave me a valuation of £600k.

In no way is this bragging - im as annoyed as anyone by having to pay the original price but if I waited, I would never be able to buy it now. Renting would have been way way worse.

I don't think people want to take the risk of the market crashing having bought an expensive place, but there isn't many better choices IMO.

Well from personal experience , when everyone tells you not to do something go for it anyway as it's usually the right choice.

If you started with nothing you can't lose much , seems a good way of mulling the risk over.

You are right there , however much ones house might be worth is not relevant , most will never see that money it will go in healthcare and/or taxation
