How do we think EU negotiations will go?

You really do look for each and every point to attack but another failure from you......words, phrases etc used in business were not taught in my "O" level days hence why I took the optional module of "Business French" when undertaking my degree studies (Funded by EU monies BTW...or should that be British taxpayer?)
Well there you go! There was me thinking fluency in French would be all you'd need to do business in France with French people when all the time what you really need is "Business French" as the 'normal stuff' doesn't really cut it. Come to think of it I "did business" in Spain for years with a Spaniard who was fluent in a range of languages which is how he managed to make business with a range of nationalities so easily. Didn't really ever hear him using a separate 'business version' of any of them.
Are you really sure about this separate 'business language' ? Is there an English version ? "Business English' ? I think you've made this up to save Sid some face.
(O and the emboldened bit's an ad hom. as in ad hominem. It's also a generalisation. So in the inimitable tit-for-tat style of u know who, na na na na na it's not me who's the failure, it's you! So there! On two fronts! )

Your other option could be to say you don't know, and that you'd be interested to understand.
Then you might learn something, which most normal people appreciate.

Ahem. It's 'bleu' not 'bleau'. 'Bleau' is what frenchmen buying weed in England ask for. (although maybe it's a special Business French term....)https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vM8aOBSZBCU

No-one mentioned a ‘separate business language’, just that to be able to pitch to a client your language skills would have to be so much better than those required for informal conversation.Come to think of it I "did business" in Spain for years with a Spaniard who was fluent in a range of languages which is how he managed to make business with a range of nationalities so easily. Everyone else understood that, so either you’re trying (and failing) to score points or just being ignorant. You tell me?

Do you know, I went and googled "Business French" just to help my ignorance and so that I could understand. And lo and behold, not only does it exist, it can be taught. here's an example of just such a course:Your other option could be to say you don't know, and that you'd be interested to understand.

Of course to the ignorant man what it LOOKS like is the helpful suggestion that if one wishes to do business in French, one should expand one's fluency to include some of the vocabulary commonly used in business. Hence the suggestions that one 'reads the business section of Tribune' or 'watches the business reports on France 24".
Erm, is this what we're talking about here? Adding the required vocabulary as one would wish to do whatever one was spending one's time talking about? A bit like saying I'd have to learn 'football French' to talk about specialist stuff like the 'offside rule' or the 'penalty decider' with a French football fan?
I see.
Guys. You're right. Of course there's 'Business French'. And, as Sid said, of course it's 'a million miles away from normal conversational everyday plain ordinary French. Million miles. Not at all just familiarisation with a bit of specialist vocabulary. Million miles. totally different language.
You 'win'. I agree.

My goodness me! I mean I speak a bit of French but I had NO IDEA!!! Of course it SOUNDS like the good old standard frog and it LOOKS like the same old. And if one didn't know better it ....well....it's just EXACTLY the same apart from introducing a bit of business terminology/vocabulary. Compagne, competitive, analyst, entrepreneur, industrial...who would have known it?
A WHOLE DIFFERENT LANGUAGE!!!
Vendeur, vendeuse, strategie, .......
Y'know a lot,,,,erm, ok, ...a helluva lot of these words (ok ok....ALL of them) are the same as are used in normal French. Honnete Indienne!

What I actually said was being able to hold an informal conversation in a foreign language is a million miles from being able to discuss business in that language. I think very few people who know what they are talking about would disagree.

Never mind jeux de balon.....you are offering a £200 bet that there is a separate French language that is called 'Business French' that is 'a million miles' from....French? (as opposed to a certain (small) amount of additional business specific vocabulary that it would be useful to assimilate within one single and non-separate language)? "But business French is a different ballgame."

Be warned o non-French speakers. It may be wise to take some advice on this before entering such a wager...
Which language is best to describe the Davis vs May fun from today? Davis says the deal will be done at 11.59 and Parliament may only get a vote after Brexit. May says otherwise, and Davis's Department then backtracks to say deal will be done "in good time". Good to see unity as always!

You have just shown the whole of PH exactly what sort of a "man" you are and I would stop digging if I were in your shoes....but then again I would never be in your shoes .
I shall say no more on the matter but I won't forget.

Aha! I get it! The 'million miles away' language IS the simple addition of some business specific vocabulary. ....... not like some 'secret' separate language like kids use.
You’re still pretending I said something that I clearly did not. Of course I am.
And of course you didn't.
Didn't manage to get the convolution (now irrelevant tangent) back on topic stream, did I?? My bad.
