I was about to say, "Well, she can land in my back yard if she likes", but,
discretion being the part of valour, I checked on Wikipedia, so no thanks.

I haven't checked that - but is that true?
Nor me, but nobody challenged it on the prog.

Significantly so, seemingly:

I thought that was common knowledge? Given the size of their population it's pretty crap.
IIRC the issue is not so much the size of their population - more the size of their country. It's twice as big as the US (indeed it's only half the size of Africa) and that size, despite the abundance of raw materials, is a big hinderance

Towards the end of the Cold War Russia had an economy half the size of the USA. Now it's roughly a tenth the size of the US. Russia is pretty poor and they are only heading one way relative to the major economies of the world.
Russia or the USSR?

How come, she seems quite nice. Is she some rabid loony leftie who only ever bangs on about social inequality to the point you sever your arteries? I have to be honest, I've never heard of her.

Shami does my swede in but does occasionally come out with some seriously good stuff.

The thing about Hitchens is, even if you totally disagree with him, he means what he says and doesn't pander to the audience with sanctimonious twaddle the likes of which Chakrabarti spew.

He doesn't pander, but he is sanctimonious. His diatribes and proselytising on drugs are Victorian dad.

Is it wrong to say she used to be a boy if she was? Perhaps the tone wasn't great but that's a fact. It would be like pointing out a politician switched parties? Might be awkward but it's true. Similarly while I think you do have some right to be forgotten it's perhaps a bit of a self imagined luxury that you should be able to delete all your indescretions
