I dont remember them trying to disperse the protests.
On the subject of those protests, given the large number of people involved and the predictions from some about the mass death and infection rate which would follow, there has been scant evidence of that.

Maybe, aside from care homes and people over 85, this really isnt quite so bad after all?

I think they're shooting themselves in the foot there though. Any couples will just go somewhere else. This is not a big flash pub, either, it's a traditional back street boozer.
Just book a table for 4 and only 2 turn up. What’s the problem

I'd be really embarrassed to do that.

Hotels.com said London was 92% booked for tomorrow night.

Birmingham 94%.
Probably because many of them aren't opening tomorrow.

You can check this on booking.com by unticking the box "Only show me available properties". It's only showing 99 hotels in Birmingham as a whole, for example.

Looking at it, the major chains are opening but smaller hotels and B&Bs etc. are mostly not. I can only see 5 B&Bs for the whole of Brum.
Many of them aren’t open. A relation of mine works in one of the large Mayfair hotels, his isn’t opening for another month or two. Hotels such as the Dorchester aren’t open and they’ve laid off most of their staff. It looks very bleak for hospitality workers at the moment.

The problem is that it is selfish. At the risk of sounding unduly precious I think there is currently a social obligation not to fk over businesses like that.

Whenever I go out to dinner, which pre CV was often, at a new place I’d invariably book a table for 4 as I find the tables for 2 too small or tucked away.

At a regular haunt I simply call and ask for my usual table which is fine.

My favourite indian that I religiously sat in on a friday night has decided with the 2m rule hes to small to even bother so ripped the entire place out and changed it to takeaway only. Beers for takeaway etc. Including pizzas and kebabs aswel. Won curry awards and the lot.

Now when everywhere reopens I will be somewhere else on a friday. I cant be bothered cleaning the takeaway up tbh.

It was selfish pre-COVID. Though if your local was fine with it, and you were a good customer, then why not?

But now, with many (most?), places rubbing along at 60% covers I really don't think it's reasonable to lead them to believe that your party is bigger than it is.

Of course your regular places may be fine with it. "Mr Creosote's in again, better stock up on After 8s". wink

What nonsense, in that case they should demand to order and pay up front of the booking on the condition that the booking will be canceled if a higher paying customer come along?

If a pub wants to exclusively book out tables of 4 it can expect to loose plenty of custom, it might be more "efficient" but not if nobody turns up.

The pub nearest to me (modern suburban estate type pub) opens at 12:00 and I've just walked past 10 minutes. All of 2 groups queuing outside, a group of 4 blokes and a group of 2.

The mobile barber's in the car park had a queue of 3 chaps waiting outside.

A barber queue, I think.

Looks like barbers will be an issue.

Apparently some near me have no PPE are not cleaning between customers and no social distancing.

On the other side. Some are doing everything they should be and more

I know which one id rather go too.

Hint- its the one where people aren't in space suits, not talking to me after I've queued in the rain and not spraying everything in sight after someone leaves.

Two hairdressers near me were open today (not including the mobile one) that I walked past this morning. One had a queue of about 6 stood outside and the other had no queue or, from what I could see, any customers. It had taped off bits of the place to make it look like a police crime scene.

I was talking to a colleague who’s son is a barber, said he’s operating a booking only system, is open 7 to 7 every day and is booked up for the next month

It’s amazing how many people are still ignorant to the guidelines.
