Liam Fox and his "advisor"
Discussion
I still think it's funny the media keep calling him "Dr. Fox".
People seem to forget that this is the man who once said "Paedophiles have genetically more in common with crabs than they do with you or me. Now that's scientific fact... there's no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact."

Different Fox I think.

Just watching Newsnight now. The apologist MP is quite funny, especially teh bluster about Brown's aircraft carrier deal at the end to ensure he had the last word.
This all seems queer to me.
Today' "Soz" to the House was pathetic and smacks of more lies / measured release (of information you dirty things
) cover up. Good to know that the male friend did not profit from any transactional activity. That is almost lke Clinton's 'not having sexual relations' with Monica Lewinsky. She just falated him. Nothing like sexual relations at all.
He should take the Mess Webley for this. I wouldn't take my mate, partner or wife to work they way he did.
I wonder who paid for it all.
Give Defence to Andrew Robathan MP (Con. South Leicestrshire)

It's a bizarre set up by the two from the very beginning. Ex Cabinet Minister and at the time the Shadow Health secretary aged 40 meets someone who is still at University whilst the former is giving a talk there. Then within a couple of years the two are flatmates and Fox has invested in some of the younger man's business ventures. Then a few years late Werritty is best man at the wedding. And now this.

It's looking that way; if Fox is found to have known about the business cards nonsense, or if Werritty gained pecuniary advantage he's toast. To put some perspective on it, I doubt Mitterrand or Chirac ever took their mistresses to meetings; knob them in hotelrooms yes, bring them to bilateral meetings with heads of state no.hidetheelephants said:

The fact that we all have bigger problems should not mean that this is simply glossed over, because if it is, next thing they will all be at it, and that is how we got 'MP's expenses'. It is a gross abuse of his position. If any of us did something like that, in the private or public sector, we would be sacked.
I tend to agree. Regardless of how good he is at his job he has shown an appalling error of judgement. They shouldn't need to still have it pointed out that you don't have your old chap polished on taxpayer time and money. From the information currently out there I cannot see how he cannot be dismissed

Nail and head interface. This isn't just nicking a few envelopes or sending a few emails using your employers network, this is lying to his employers, showing a monumental lack of judgement and abusing his position to further the interests of his friend. He's using public funds to pay a friend who is not on the payroll - whether this payment is in the form of cash, or trips or "expenses" or contracts it doesn't matter. In any other line of business we would be fired and possibly facing criminal charges.Fox is a minister of the crown and he is there to SERVE us. Nothing I've seen of this episode shows that he has learnt anything from previous scandals and he should go now.

I like Liam Fox, he seems to have done a passable job at the thankless task of being the SecDef wielding the biggest axe since Options for Change, but this is embarrassing. Some random nobber flashing business cards claiming to be something he isn't(a Special Adviser is a real job, and this guy isn't it) and sitting in meetings. WTF? Could he not just have stuck to sharing hotel rooms a la William Hague?
He's not popular in the defence industry and MOD.Well known for scheduling meetings, asking a question, listening to approx 7 seconds of the answer before embarking on an entirely unrelated 10 min monologue and then throwing the attendee out.

Disregarding the fact he appears on the way out, that just sounds like sour grapes from Sir Humphrey.Well known for scheduling meetings, asking a question, listening to approx 7 seconds of the answer before embarking on an entirely unrelated 10 min monologue and then throwing the attendee out.

Absolutely not. If you bump into anyone from BAe Systems, Thales, Qinetiq or the like that have had to endure him they will almost certainly have similar tales. Out of his depth seems to be a very common view.

Whereas Werrity seems well up Dr. Fox's depth, so to speak.Out of his depth seems to be a very common view.

How can Cameron support him? Should have sacked him as soon as it came to light. There is no justifiable reason why you would want your mate attending meetings, apart from the obvious reason of helping them to further their business/career interest.
Cameron is a spineless twunt.
It does show weakness to not get rid of him straight away.Cameron is a spineless twunt.
Listening to what the Porton guy is saying on the news Fox has to go; Werritty seems to have been leading some Mitty-esque life as a pseudo lobbyist/special adviser/Ugandan studies specialist on the back of his association with Fox. This is not fixable with a half-arsed apology to the house.
It's interesting to note that Werrity, a public policy graduate, after moving into Commons funded accommodation at 25 - set up a health company mirroring Fox's shadow remit - then magically switched to defence oriented ones when Fox became minister in that area.
And how on earth does he pay for multiple first class return flights each year? This alone would be nearly 100k.
