Just me on that one Hoofy! When I was in Japan, I watched some J-League stuff. They started doing martial arts so I asked the guy next to me what was going on. Turns out it was 3 minutes of Ninjary time.</timvine>

I wouldn't be lumping the Czechs in with that lot. I have spent a fair bit of time over there in CZ and found the people to be very friendly and decent people.
I've noticed that as well. Probably the most cultured, artistic and well-mannered people i have ever come across, possibly expect for the Welsh. And i'm including my own heritage and current abode. Poles are very much in either camp - some are really nice (like the husband of my friend who is decorating my house in case he is reading this) and others who are a bit snobby. Not sure if i'd call it Mein Kampf level of racism, but there's the assumption that if you don't look like them then you are uneducated or a potential criminal. I think the Ukrainians haven't got much further from the 1930s in terms of societal evolution.torres del paine said:
No surprise to me.
Backward, abrasive and insular (a significant minority that is) and openly racist over here too.
I've met some pretty ghastly Poles, Czechs, Russians and Estonians, who just cannot get their heads around multicultural Britian. Their views rise to the surface quickly and are on a par with Mein Kampf, base and massively bourne out of an inferiority complex.
I'm with you on this one.Backward, abrasive and insular (a significant minority that is) and openly racist over here too.

I've worked in Russia, east and west and had a lot more contact with Eastern Europeans and many different Russian 'races' during my time living in France.
The majority of 'true' Russians look on the South Caucausus inhabitants (Chechneya, Dagestan, Azerbaijan etc.) as nothing more than uncultured savages, 'black arses' as they call them in Russian. As for Ukraine, many people forget that there are two different ethnic mixes from east (generally Russian leaning) and from the west who are mostly looking to the west for there cultural heritage.
I believe that it's too much of a sweeping generalisation to label all Ukrainians or all Russians as 'racists' although there is no doubt that many of them have extreme racist views, the numbers are too great and the racial mix too diverse to make such judgements.
All IMHO of course.
carry on...

On one hand it's good to see that England aren't the only fans to attract attention by this Neanderthal behaviour. On the other hand it's so sad to see that once again football has proven that it's supporters come from the lowest dregs of society!

A whopping great Russian flag emblazoned with
THIS IS RUSSIA
held by the Russian fans in the National Stadium of Poland in Warsaw. Confrontational considering their twentieth century histories?
It already kicked off before the game, the Russians were allowed to march through Warsaw to celebrate Russia day or something THIS IS RUSSIA
held by the Russian fans in the National Stadium of Poland in Warsaw. Confrontational considering their twentieth century histories?
