Jobsworths - Springsteen concert
Discussion
Why am I strange for not agreeing?
All this boils down to is "you think it's important that acts finish on time and I don't". I hardly expect you to change your mind or see it my way but you just seem to want to argue with me about it. I even smilied my last post to show I'm not bothered!
I'm really not angry at all. As I said earlier, HRC is a st gig with a st crowd anyway and my liking or not liking Springsteen has very little to do with how much slavish rule following depresses me.
We'll never agree (except on it not being newsworthy). It's just something to discuss on a wet Tuesday I suppose. Take heart in the fact that there are many more who will agree with you than there are who will agree with me...

It wan't 'slavish', there were good reasons for it (which have been explained at some length) and everybody concerned knew the finishing time way before it started.
I think it was rather the starting time being way before it started that was the problem. That and Mr Springsteen's inability to stop. Ever.Poor organisation on the part of the tour organisers.
I'll have even less sympathy if it happens to Madonna. Stupid cow refused to come on at the O2 until an hour after curtain up because the temp wasn't right.
Zero refunds from anyone involved and bagging profits, for punters who had to miss most of the show to get public transport.

Real dilemma this one. I was tossing and turning all night trying to get it straight in my head.
The Daily Mail seems to think they should have let them play on, blaming "tedious, mind-numbingly dumb British officialdom" and quoting the normally infallible Boris Johnson as saying "If they'd have called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!"
But Guy Stagg of the Daily Telegraph says it made him proud to be English, and bizarrely concluding that "we’re English, we do what the law tells us to do" and noting that being "petty, heartless and pedantic" is what gave us Magna Carta and the rule of law.
So we have fun, culture and God himself versus Magna Carta, Westminster Council and the basis of civilisation.
Even Pistonheads in it's infinite wisdom hasn't come up with a cohesive collective answer yet.
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!

How many more times do you need to have it explained to you? And when are you going to acknowledge that if they had started on time then the problem would not have arisen?

I am fully cognisant of your argument so your patronising comments about 'needing it explained to me' are unrequired. I still don't agree though. And won't, as in my opinion, you and others' reasons for it being important to end on time simply aren't. I suspect we're just completely different types of people and won't ever agree. I'm sorry; don't really know what else to say!
Eta - starting in time would not have helped as they always play long into the night, regardless.

One wonders your views on other threats to society such as,- non-standard number plate spacing
- exhausts with a gentle rasp
- tinted windows
- exceeding the speed limit by 2 mph
- smoking while driving
- UK drink-driving limit less restrictive then EU levels

Rarely have I ever seen such an obvious use of the Strawman fallacy.
Nonsense, the points are identical. Your argument is simply that the "problem" could have been avoided by following the "rules".What's needed is fewer rules and more common sense, regrettably lacking in some people.
Singlecoil, you're like some sort of relentless, argument Terminator robot that keeps going and going, critiquing argument technique until everyone is too bored to continue.
I think the problem is that you see this as objectively right and wring whereas I see it as not important and a matter of opinion. That's why I won't 'concede', as you put it. Agree?

I think they were stopped, rather than choosing to stop.
So a contract/license was agreed and signed yet they still wanted to ignore that and carry on? singlecoil said:

I think you've hit the nail on the head.More and more the UK, especially England, is apparently becoming a population that needs the reassurance and comfort of mind numbing petty regulation. Very sad.
