here is the video, although I doubt it's real...the trajectory doesn't remind of a plane falling

Who's claiming to have taken that video?

In pprune (before the video was deleted) it was claimed that it was filmed from a ship that was in the area.

As usual the media will be all over it before actually confirming its authenticity so take it with a pinch of salt.

Looks to me more like a re-entering spacecraft or re-entering space debris.

With a username that begins with virus, I would suggest that it is more likely to be Father Christmas delivering presents than an airliner crashing.

40 miles from the coast and over thirty thousand feet in the air? That's a pretty snazzy weapons system, surely someone would have noticed a missile mounted on the back of a truck knocking about the coastal region?

These crazy quotes always come out after an incident like this, best ignored until more official news comes out.

You have a media desperate for 24/7 news and these kinds of comments from some supposed 'authority', usually off the record and potentially mistranslated, shouldn't be given much credence.

Hmmm, that would have to have been fired from a ship at that location, and to reach that height would have had to have been a seriously capable missile system similar to the one that brought down the Ukranian flight.

I don't think speculation at this time makes any point.

I would also point out that although this is Egypt Air again, there could well be no other link to the Russian jet that was lost.

Malaysian airlines lost two jets in a year and those incidents were totally unrelated, after all.

Would a civilian airliner have SAM detection? I highly doubt the swerve had anything to do with a missile since they would have no idea one was coming.

I don't think it'll be like Top Gun where a passenger plane is jinking left and right to avoid bloody missiles!

The plane apparently made a 90 degree left, a 360 degree to the right and then dropped from 37k ft to 15k ft. It dropped off radar at 10k ft

I realise it is highly unlikely, and speculative, but can you think of any reason why an aircraft would make sudden "swerving movements".
It was the first thing that came to mind.
I do not know very much about Surface to Air Missiles, in terms of range etc.

Possible hijacker wrestling with controls/pilots etc and it goes wrong - was about to descend, not a bad time time try and take over, the majority of the flight is over and done with?

Sounds ridiculous to even say it, I'm sure someone will tell me to do one shortly.

Could it be something like this?

Loss of control surfaces due to violent disruption of the airframe.

I meant the reference to 'swerving'.

You or I interpret that as like a car avoiding an obstacle; but maybe it means a course change (normal) or something completely different in the original Greek, but has been interpreted.

I wouldn't focus too much on what people say at this stage.

massive instrument failure?

corrective action and over correction?
