It's not limited to housing, over 85% of our schools contain asbestos (this is a fact checked with the DfE on Friday) in one way or another,

Right now, as you sit here reading this, there are over 8.2 million children on a school site containing asbestos....

Education is my area,....
And i'm sure you know just how safe Asbestos is within a building provided it's not disturbed... usually much safer to leave in place than to remove it.
I do actually yes.

It's not all in thermoplastic tiles or window packing though is it.
No it’s not, but you clearly don’t know how safe it is or you wouldn’t have said what you did.

I should stick to education if I were you, though perhaps not teaching grammar!
Okay, if you'd rather insult me than have a conversation on a public forum, fine.

I never claimed to be an expert, I simply stated a statistic which the government is very interested in.

Also, I do hope you gain a sense of worth from belittling my poor grammar, not sure why you would want to do that really.

Wasn't this discussion about Grenfell and I was pointing out that I've experience of similar situations in which this could have occurred, not that any of that mattered to you, as you simply chose to spot poor grammar and my apparent concern over asbestos.

The internet really is a strange place, would you talk to me like this in public I wonder?

Depressing and casts a shadow over the area. It is pathetic that it hasn't been pulled down.
It's that sort of mindset from the residents surrounding the tower that led to the cladding being put there in the first place.

It was you that quoted some random Asbestos statistic relating to schools in this Grenfell thread. I assume you were trying to ignite another 'National Scandal' 'think of the children' type headline.

The tragedy at Grenfell is (IMHO) due to a perfect storm of errors / poor policy / poor judgement and pure luck that it hadn't happened elsewhere. Asbestos in Schools or any other building is nothing even remotely similar, so unless you are able to articulate the details of the experience you have in similar situations, it may be better to wait until they publish the official report.

I was told last week (by someone in the know) it was still ongoing. Could be wrong.

Looks like there is still a police investigation ongoing. So that seems to be the correct information you were told smile

You're probably correct and have summarised what I suggested in my first post.

The point I was making, is that in my opinion Grenfell wasn't greed, as I stated, but a combination of lack of good judgement by several individuals and organisations, probably due to budgets.

I would like to think no-one involved in Grenfell set out to create this tragedy.

However I do believe asbestos in schools is similar, in that we all know it's there and yet no-one wants to pay to have it removed.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-4...
https://www.shponline.co.uk/occupational-health/wh...
https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/101181...

Now yes, those and many other stories could be scare mongering and then again, perhaps they are not.

However to me, the link to a cheaper job on Grenfell, due to the bureaucracy of cost, rang similar bells to leaving asbestos in schools...despite PH clearly not being the place to have an opinion and want to contribute....

Went down to London over the weekend with the girlfriend and went past Grenfell on the way in and were wondering why it hadn't been pulled down yet. Only guess we had was that some investigation was still going.

That’s disgusting and deeply insulting. Unless she has evidence to the contrary I don’t believe that who is in a building crosses the mind of any fire fighters. Given the risk they put themselves at fighting tower-block fires she should have a bit more respect. She has done good things for improving race relations but comments like that cause huge damage.

No wonder Labour can't get anywhere near government. That's utterly appalling.

That seems like an unbelievably crass thing to say - more what I would expect of Lily Allen than Baroness Lawrence.

How are the firefighters supposed to have known what the ethnicity of the residents was?

I don't usually shout at the television but when I heard her saying that on Channel 4 news last night I was unable to contain myself (ooer matron!).
I'd like to see her say that face to face to a firefighter............
Any respect I had for her has vanished.
