Stormzy’s attack on TM, justified or not?

1. If you can't get that Blinded by Your Grace is a stand out song then Im not sure you had your ears open. And I say that as someone who more or less regards decent music as stopping when Freddie died.
2. The PM was used as merely a lightning rod for The Establishment. That is fairly standard fare.
3. If you heard any of his interview with Jo Whiley, then it easily obvious that he is well read, possesses a wide lexicon and quick witted to make use of it.
4. Music/popular culture has ALWAYS been a/the pop-off value for the younger generation to aim their shots at the Establishment. Its a free shot, open goal, echo chamber shout. Its also incredibly safe for both those offering the shots and those being aimed at. Its completely in the no harm-no foul rules of the game as it follows the conventions from both sides and leaves everyone happy.
5. Although the PM as an Establishment figure is a generic shot, the use of TM explicitly is also politically viable as she has frequently stated that her main interest in domestic politics is housing - or rather lack of it. Because she is so brutally weak though, her own political agenda has been reduced to half a paragraph on page 11 in The Sun - whilst she dances to the Brexit tune of BoGoMog.
Being someone who believes that a govt's job list should start: A. defend the nation, B: educate the nation, C: house the nation, I have no problem with someone putting a shot across the bows of a PM who allegedly has that as her number 1 priority.
Hell - anybody who has any of those as their number 1 priority, and frankly you can throw in transport the nation, power the nation and water the bloody nation, is well and truely entitled to feel somewhat less than enthusiastic at the current situation!
To anybody who seems to think the correct rebuttal to the above is: But Corbyn!! - I can only offer my own response: Dont be an arse.
Jezza is never getting into govt, in this Parliament, life or the next. Which of course only damns the current embodiment of the Tory party even more. They have a free shot at governing the country and to say they are making a dogs dinner of it would be insulting the nutritious properties of Pedigree Chum!
This govt is a shower and I have little sympathy with TM even though I think she is probably one of the Good Guys, etc. Either step up or bugger off luv, because wearing the big girl panties is the job.
What a load of irrelevant dross. 1. If you can't get that Blinded by Your Grace is a stand out song then Im not sure you had your ears open. And I say that as someone who more or less regards decent music as stopping when Freddie died.

He asked ‘where’s the money for Grenfell’.
They’ve been rehoused and compensated - so it is clear that the ‘money for Grenfell’ is where it should be - rehousing and compensating victims of an avoidable fire.

I think this is probably the worst part of it all, im pretty sure TM has never uttered the words savages directed at those caught up in grenfall, and for him to be broadcasting this to millions is damn right disgusting.
Also the residents of grenfall got quite a good deal out of it, have you seen the government documents on the money raised (26 million quid) and the handsome funds dished out to those injured, something silly like 30k if you were more than 7 days in hospital. And this fker has the cheek to suggest no money cane their way.
I dont expect the government to lower themselves to the mud slinging lefties but they should at least stand up for themselves and correct the nonsense and blatent lies.
Seems like a good deal to me, 30k for losing my home, posessions, and family members. Plus, I'll always have the fond memories of panic, fear and family loss to keep me company through the long lonely nights of despair. Also the residents of grenfall got quite a good deal out of it, have you seen the government documents on the money raised (26 million quid) and the handsome funds dished out to those injured, something silly like 30k if you were more than 7 days in hospital. A few weeks ago admittedly, but this appears to show things might not be as resolved as you seem to believe (as if they ever could be): http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-425204...He asked ‘where’s the money for Grenfell’.

The whole tone of the thread seems to be "Stormzy is a dick" rather than think may he a) be doing what musicians have done forever and b) may just have a tiny bit of a point.

I agree. However, I must admit I was actually quite enjoying this thread as the best example ever of an utterly pointless PH topic. Grime artist v Tory government. On PH. It's nice to get an eloquent stop-check to make sure you haven't turned into a curmudgeonly pensioner, and as I've oft admired the 'don't criticise what you don't understand' stance of the more lauded folk protest artistes, your post has somewhat relaxed my initial feelings that I'd tuned in to some grotesque parody show by mistake. 1. However, the raging, cynical pensioner that lurks in all of us can't help but be a trifle more cynical and think that he's just doing what he does for the attention and that if he was, after all, an intellectual colossus of social commentary, he would do better by not alienating those outside the small percentile wannabe gangster mobs he is aiming his comments to but rather expanding his audience to enlighten those blessed with more critical faculties. You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows, as someone said.
...And as for Corbyn - well, in a post-Trump, post-Brexit, post-Arab Spring, post-Macron world, it would be a brave man that pins his predictions so firmly to the post...

I posted this in The Brits thread so just for completeness, I thought I'd post it here also...
Whilst Stormzy is of course allowed to make political statements about things he feels strongly about, very well known British urban/rap artists linked with him and his scene make a point of not working with other artists from different postcodes/areas due to affiliations with certain gangs. These being the same gangs whose activities result in children bring stabbed and killed on the streets of major cities in Britain.
My point being that many people within the industry (like Stormzy) want to be seen as the ones fighting for justice for disadvantaged sections of society, however conveniently ignore that they’re contributing towards a VERY real problem themselves.
Now I'm not saying that Stormzy actively promotes violence however the scene as a whole glorifies status and physical influence above everything else and at the expense of a complete breakdown in human decency within some sections of society.

The inquiry is still ongoing, so no, it hasn't been forgotten about.
Approx £60m of funds has been allocated to the survivors.
The tenants can hardly complain about being relocated from a flat into another flat.
If the local council had enough spare properties to instantly house all the survivors within their postcode then serious questions would be raised as to why so many council properties were previously left empty.
Stormzy (Michael Omari) is endorsed by Corbyn, therefore all his arguments are invalid.
This inquiry that's still ongoing, I wonder if it's going to take as long publishingApprox £60m of funds has been allocated to the survivors.

the reults as the one at Lakanal House in 2009.
A Fire, apparently caused, or made worse by the same, or very similar cladding
used at Grenfell. This fire resulted in the death of 6 people.
The Home Secretary at the time was TM., who when she became PM handed over the inquiry
to Gavin Barwell.
When asked when the reults were going to be published, Barwell stated that it
was currently being reviewed. This, iirc, was in 2016. 7 years after the initial fire.
Apparently , a recomendation by the London fire brigade was that all
Tower blocks be fitted with sprinklers, not an easy or cheap task admittedley.
This reccomendation was dismissed by the Housing Minister , Brandon Lewis.
Incidentally, Barwell who lost his constituency seat in the last election, is now
ensconced in No10 Downing ST. I am not aware if the results of the
Lakanal fire inquiry have as yet been published.
Now what do you think inquisitive, and perhaps impressionable people
would perhaps make of that in relation to Grenfell?
It's a sad state of affairs when the UK government have to answer to the likes of Stormzy. I think I'd rather have a slightly more authoritative government who rises above such rants.
Maybe Stormzy should instead ask the charities what happened to all the donations, rather than taking the default easy route of blaming everything on the government?
Hint - the money went into the back pockets of the charities and/or got plundered. Simplz innit.

Definitely a conspiracy. I heard that a Tory MP was seen leaving the area with an empty petrol can soon after the blaze took hold. The savage. Let's burn their house down too. the reults as the one at Lakanal House in 2009.

No fan of TM, & I cannot stand rap 'music' - how they can call themselves 'artists' is beyond me.
This Stormzy character sounds like a complete tt
